The University of Minnesota Morris is searching for an Admissions Counselor and Assistant Volleyball Coach. This position is a 100%, 12 month, annually renewable appointment within the Office of Admissions (75%) and Intercollegiate Athletics (25%). This position carries a competitive annual salary, comprehensive benefit package, and multiple opportunities for professional development. 

The Office of Admissions is the primary source of information about the University of Minnesota Morris for prospective students. The office recruits and admits students and facilitates the connection to the University faculty and staff to discuss programs in which a student is interested. In addition, it represents and markets the campus through electronic communications and printed brochures and material regarding all phases of the institution and its policies and programs.  As a key member of the admissions team, this position must be enthusiastic, highly-motivated, and have the ability to articulate the values and objectives of a liberal arts institution to attract, recruit, and admit prepared students to the University of Minnesota Morris. The individual selected will represent Morris to the public providing high quality service to prospective students and their families and collaborating with members of the campus to support students and advance efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment at UMN Morris. 

The University of Minnesota Morris Cougars compete in the NCAA Division III and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference with 19 sports for men and women. One in five UMN Morris students is a varsity athlete.This position is responsible for supporting all aspects of a very competitive NCAA Division III volleyball program. The assistant coach assists the head coaches in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students’ safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, UMAC and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will work with the head volleyball coach to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goals. 
 

Qualifications

 

Essential knowledge, skills and abilities: A Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated effectiveness playing and/or coaching volleyball is required.  A Master’s degree, college coaching experience or participation, and/or previous experience in college admission or college counseling are preferred. 

Required qualifications include: BA/BS degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or master's degree, excellent organization, oral and written communication skills, an appreciation for the philosophy of the NCAA Division III, strong program management skills, the ability to recruit and retain qualified and talented student athletes, a demonstrated commitment to students’ athletic and academic success, the demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and retain a diverse, inclusive, successful team with sensitivity to individuals of all cultural backgrounds, and the capacity to be a visible and engaging leader. The successful candidate will demonstrate an appreciation for the mission and value of a public liberal arts college, be self-directed and motivated, work with integrity, and bring skills and abilities needed to advance Cougar volleyball, the Office of Admissions, and the University.
