This position also coordinates and oversees the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, certification and performance of employees working as lifeguards. This includes teaching lifeguarding, CPR, water safety and all other required certifications.  Cover any lifeguard needs for scheduling conflicts. This includes payroll, billing and collecting charges for non-collegiate use of the pool, equipment purchases and other miscellaneous expenditures. Assists in the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness and related pool needs. Assist in maintenance and repair of aquatics facilities and equipment. Responsible for working with the Athletics Facilities & Operations Coordinator to ensure that the pool facility is clean and in good repair.  This includes scheduling appropriate time for routine and deep cleaning as well as maintenance, both routine and preventative, of all pool systems.

The Aquatic Director/Diving Coach has knowledge of USA Diving/FINA Diving, RMAC Conference, and NCAA Diving rules and regulations. Instruct athletes with sound principles and integrity that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of athletics at Western Colorado University. Oversee all recruitment for Dive prospective student-athletes. Collaborate with Head Swim Coach regarding all athletics grant-in-aid and budget-related aspects. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of WCU and the WCU Athletics Department. Oversee all travel that pertains to the Diving programs. Oversite and scheduling of all off-campus training. Manage all equipment relative to the Dive programs.

In addition to excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills the Aquatic Director will set up and tear down all equipment, spectator seating, and pool deck for all swim team home meets. Operate and maintain the Colorado Timing System during all home meets. Provide information about aquatics programs to schools, community service groups and the general public.  Develop flyers, brochures, and advertisements as needed to promote aquatic programming. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of management level experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. Water safety instructor training, CPR/first aid with Red Cross, and AED/oxygen knowledge/ lifeguard certification.  Chemical testing, pool system operations, pool programming and lesson programming experience.  Minimum of 3 years of pool management including staff supervision and pool maintenance. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service. Strong computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:  Certified pool operator and 5 years of pool management including staff supervision and pool maintenance and a minimum of 5 years diving coach preferable collegiate coaching or club coaching.

Compensation:  This is a full-time, twelve-month position with an initial salary of $40,000. Position is eligible for an excellent benefits package including health and dental insurance plans with low co-pays and low out of pocket maximums, generous paid time off, a shared contribution retirement plan and, following one year of employment, tuition benefits.
