POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of Assistant Athletic Director, Broadcast and Live Event Production will oversee all broadcast productions, serve as the athletic department’s primary engineer for broadcasts and manage all video production for external events in the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. Under the general direction of the Associate Athletic Director, External Relations, this position will be responsible for:
Overseeing all Duquesne-produced live-event broadcasting (streamed and linear) and serving as the primary point of contact for all nationally-broadcast events
In-arena event production (i.e. video boards) for all home contests, NCAA or conference championships and University events (e.g. graduations, admitted students’ days, DUQ days, etc.) (supplementary income provided for non-university or NCAA)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of Assistant Athletic Director, Broadcast and Live Event Production will oversee all broadcast productions, serve as the athletic department’s primary engineer for broadcasts and manage all video production for external events in the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. Under the general direction of the Associate Athletic Director, External Relations, this position will be responsible for:
Overseeing all Duquesne-produced live-event broadcasting (streamed and linear) and serving as the primary point of contact for all nationally-broadcast events
In-arena event production (i.e. video boards) for all home contests, NCAA or conference championships and University events (e.g. graduations, admitted students’ days, DUQ days, etc.) (supplementary income provided for non-university or NCAA)
Primary technology contact for all external events hosted within the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse
Maintenance, upkeep and replacement of department equipment specifically those items that are critical to video board operations and broadcasting.
Directs and oversees all elements of video production for distribution across various channels
Overseeing undergraduate students and interns including recruiting, training, scheduling and managing day-to-day responsibilities on event day
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overseeing live-event production
Directs the production of live broadcasts for all home athletics events (approximately 60-70 per academic year)
Serves at the primary point of contact for all broadcast talent including staffing events
Oversees all equipment maintenance, staffing, script planning, graphics, corporate integrations and in-broadcast feature videos
Elevating event productions to include appropriate storytelling, highlight packages, intro-shots and graphics
Oversees the entire production from setup to strike
Oversees the continued care and maintenance of a production trailer
Serves as the primary point of contact for all nationally-broadcast events
Updating of all graphics packages on a yearly basis or as required by broadcast partners
NOTE: Candidates for this position MUST be able to produce an ESPN+ streamed broadcast from start to finish with minimal to no training
Engineering & Equipment Maintenance
Serves as the department’s technology engineer providing maintenance, repairs and training on equipment and control room
A working knowledge of fiber paths, video switchers, audio mixers, graphics platforms, LED displays and components, instant replay systems, broadcast cameras, coax and audio cable termination is preferred. Any official engineering certifications is a plus.
Ability to integrate the above functions into a single broadcast
Provides recommendations for equipment lifecycle and upgrades
Oversees the continued care and maintenance of Daktronics, IPTV and sound systems within the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse
Creates an inventory of equipment and adhere to proper storage standards
Leads in-arena event production
Directs and oversees all UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in-house productions
In collaboration with the graphic designer, develops and uploads content for game themes, statistical interfaces and interactive content for events
Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Sales and Revenue to ensure all corporate activations are uploaded and executed in-game
Staffs and produces other events as scheduled, additional compensation provided pending upon the event (e.g. all non-University events will have increased compensation)
Primary liaison for any technology needs for events hosted in the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse
Managing undergraduate students and interns including recruiting, training and managing day-to-day responsibilities
Hires and manages vendors and serves as a liaison to Daktronics, DVSport, ESPN+ and Wing Warp
Responsible for the planning and maintaining of the production budget
Serves as a liaison to the Atlantic 10 and Northeast Conference for broadcast and video requests
Completes other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in digital media or a similar program from an accredited institution
7-8 years of relevant experience
Candidate MUST be able to produce an entire ESPN+ broadcast from start to finish with little to no training. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a television production trailer with NewTek and AJT Systems technologies as well as general engineering experience (assigning IP addresses, configuring network switches, routers, encoders, etc.).
A portfolio of work is required for consideration; must at least include one piece in which the applicant was an event’s primary producer and director
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Excellent organizational, project management and problem-solving skills
Willingness to work extended hours beyond the typical business day, nights and weekends throughout the academic year
Innovative, creative and energetic personality that will recommend and implement new ideas that fit within provided budget
An understanding of the collegiate broadcast and streaming industries
Preferred video production qualifications include proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite focusing on Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop
Ability to communicate and adhere to University, Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and regulations
