Apply Nowerving as the liaison between the Athletic Department, the Student Success Center, and the Office of Academic Affairs.
Provides supplemental academic counseling for student-athletes
and confirms student-athlete eligibility statuses by working with the Compliance Office staff and the Registrar’s Office in processing and certifying continuing eligibility in accordance with NCAA regulations.
Manages the department’s responsibility in the certification process by communicating NCAA and A10 rules and regulations on satisfactory progress and eligibility of student-athletes with college academic advisors, coaching staff, athletic administrators, the Compliance Office, the Registrar’s Office and the faculty athletics representative. Including maintaining records as related to continuing eligibility for SBU, the A10, and the NCAA.
Serves as lead academic advisor for assigned sports and at-risk student-athletes, sending updated academic reports to coaches and monitoring appropriate progress towards degree.
Takes an action-based, hands on approach with at-risk student-athletes to ensure they are provided with every opportunity to be successful.
Assists student-athletes in selecting and declaring an academic major, and assists student-athletes each semester during the pre-registration process by monitoring their class schedules for graduate requirements and special athletic needs, such as travel and practice.
Works with the Registrar’s Office to evaluate transfer credits to determine the incoming eligibility status of prospective transfer student-athletes, and to create degree plans for incoming and current student-athletes.
Assists with NCAA mandatory reports (e.g. APR, GSR).

Assists coaches with recruitment activities for the department by meeting with prospective student-athletes and their parents during campus visits.

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in counseling, sports administration or related field preferred
Three to five years of working with collegiate athletes preferred

| Possible travel locally and nationally. Possible exposure to gym and athletic venues with accompanying hazards. Long, irregular work hours including evening, weekend and holiday hours. Will need to be available early mornings, evenings and weekends.
