Assistant Athletic Director for Advancement & Engagement
works within the Individual and Planned Giving Team, and has a dual report to the Associate Vice President for Individual Giving and the Associate Vice President for Athletics to further the fundraising goals of the Department of Athletics & Recreation. The Assistant Athletic Director will qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward alumni, parents and friends who are capable of making leadership annual gifts ($1,000+), major gifts and/or planned gifts ($50,000+) in support of Athletics. Some travel will be required. Annual goals will be established jointly between the
AVP
for Athletics and Vice President for Advancement; regular meetings involving the two AVPs and the Assistant Athletic Director will be essential to ensuring sustained progress for annual and multiyear goals and initiatives within the scope of Athletics & Recreation. This position will work with Advancement Communications and the Director of the Wheaton Fund to help develop athletic fundraising communications.
Bachelor’s Degree required. Candidates should have 3-5 years of fundraising experience with a non-profit, including face to face solicitations and experience in relationship building and soliciting four and five-figure gifts (or greater). Strong computer skills and the ability to prioritize and work independently is needed. Excellent communication skills including writing and speaking are important to this position. Candidates must be willing to travel independently by car, train and airplane. Position includes support for and participation in Wheaton’s diversity, equity, inclusion & belonging priorities.
Experience soliciting and closing five-figure commitments (or greater). The ideal candidate is interested in working with prospects and donors to promote leadership gifts to the college via the athletics & recreation program. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and experience with Raisers Edge
NXT
software are a plus. The ability to adapt to new technologies, and handle confidential matters with integrity, tact and discretion is preferred. Teamwork, collaboration, and a sense of humor are a regular component of this role. Familiarity with
NCAA
athletics is a plus. The ability to comfortably interact with faculty, staff, students, donors, prospects and volunteers is an asset. The ability to manage diverse tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and complex environment, and influence others to move toward a common vision or goal; meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and time sensitivity; discretion, diplomacy, and good judgment with confidential information; initiative and adaptability are each assets for this position as well.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.
The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $55,000 – $62,000.
