Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Development

General Summary: 

The Assistant Athletic Director (AD) of Athletic Development is responsible for helping to advance the fundraising and engagement strategic priorities of the Department of Athletics and Recreations at the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston). With a major emphasis on increasing the total number of donors as overall philanthropic contributions to the department, the Assistant AD will work to develop and implement strategies to achieve athletic department goals including but not limited to managing the athletics annual fundraising program, planning, developing, and executing athletic related fundraising and stewardship events. Additionally, manage a small portfolio of athletic donors with the purpose of qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.  

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Athletic Director for Strategic Advancement, the Assistant AD of Athletic Development will collaborate with colleagues in the Athletic Department, University Advancement, University Communications, and the Sports Leadership and Administration Program members to cultivate active volunteers and increase opportunities for engagement across campus.

Examples of Duties: 

• In close coordination with the Deputy AD for Strategic Advancement, develop a metric-based, comprehensive annual giving program for departmental fundraising efforts, including the Beacon Athletic Fund and team-specific fundraising priorities.
• Draft fundraising appeals and ensures proper athletic department branding on all external communications.
• Aid in the creation of a stewardship program for athletic focused donors.
• Provide leadership and supervision for the Annual UMass Boston Athletic Department Golf Outing.
• Provide leadership of the annual Senior Class Toast.
• Assist with the planning and execution of the UMass Boston Athletic Hall of Fame.
• Aid in the creation and execution of an Athletics specific giving day to generate support for the athletic department and individual athletic programs.
• Manage a small portfolio of donors and conduct 3-5 visits monthly.
• Provide leadership and training to coaches and staff on fundraising best practices.

• Work closely with head coaches to help meet program-specific fundraising goals and initiatives.
• Work closely with athletic administration and head coaches to develop and coordinate engagement events that engage a diverse group of constituents.
• Actively work with athletic administrators, coaches, alums, and key volunteers in fundraising efforts for intercollegiate athletics.

Additional Responsibilities  

• Work closely with athletic administration to build UMass Boston Athletic brand in the community. 
• Work with University Advancement on special projects and stewardship materials.
• Other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.  
• 2-4 years of proven fundraising experience in higher education or non-profit organization.
• Discretion and ability to communicate effectively with donors and external partners while maintaining appropriate confidentiality where needed. 
• Ability to gain a comprehensive understanding of fundraising priorities and articulate them to external audiences.  
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision is necessary.  
• Ability to work with a wide range of constituents and stakeholders in a diverse community. 
• The ability to travel and work a non-standard work week, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is necessary.
