Assistant Athletic Director for Business

This position provides support for all financial operations of the Athletic Department by overseeing and handling all financial documents and accounting processes.
Under direct supervision of an experienced accountant or finance unit manager, position work assignments include some or all of the following: compilation and maintenance of records of routine accounting transactions; assistance in preparation and/or maintenance of accounting reporting systems; resolution of problems associated with incorrect entries, deviations from established procedures and other inconsistencies with generally accepted accounting principles; may assist in analysis and interpretation of accounting records and reports and/or performance of administrative and clerical support duties as assigned; may direct the activities of temporary staff.
Duties may include:
Analyze accounting records for accuracy and completeness
Review records to assess proper classification and coding of income and expenditures
Ensure compliance with University procedures in general accounting practices
Process, update and maintain various accounting records and documents in accordance with University policies and procedures
Reconcile, review and approve various accounting records and transactions
Preparing correcting entries to various databases as appropriate
Generate standard and custom financial documents and reports
Analyze and forecast revenue and expenditure trends
Assist customers with University policies and procedures or make referrals as necessary
Interact with internal and external auditors and participate in auditing projects
Assist with researching and interpreting relevant local, state and federal regulations and file required returns and reports
Assist with researching and interpreting governmental accounting standards for financial reporting
Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications
| Required Experience |
- No previous accounting experience required
|
| Required Education |
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or equivalent OR a Master’s Degree in accounting
|
| Required Other |
- Must be able to occasionally work nonstandard business hours
|
| Additional Preferred |
- Experience working in a complex, decentralized accounting environment
- Experience with governmental fund accounting
- Two (2) years of entry level experience in the areas of budget, fiscal or administrative services support, including experience with electronic systems, human resources and/or business administration
- Excellent public relations and organizational skills, detail-oriented, self-starter
- Experience with Banner, Student/HR modules, Chrome River and Jaggaer software
- Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word
- Experience with interpreting and applying regulations and policies
- Experience with the activities and organization of an athletic department
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
