Job Description
As the Department’s Sports Information Coordinator, manage all-inclusive coverage of assigned sports; to include coordination of media coverage, website management, operations management, marketing/promotions, and game day responsibilities.
Coordinate the publicity and communications for assigned sport programs. Nominates and publicizes student-athletes for various awards, honors and special recognitions.
Responds to day-to-day media inquiries and needs for administration/coaches/student-athletes to provide subject matter expertise.
Produce and/or has oversight on editorial content for media guides/flyers, game programs, news releases, websites, ticket flyers, fund raising flyers, camp brochures, print advertising, radio promos and other campus publications that promote intercollegiate athletics and related activities;
Coordinate home event operations for assigned sports, which includes: in-house live stats or webcasts of assigned home events. Coordinates media credential requests for assigned sports. Arranges media interviews with coaches and student-athletes for assigned sports.
Coordinate all aspects of media coverage for assigned home events, utilizing modern technology to accommodate media productions.
Oversee the use and/or provides training for Statcrew software and Scorekeeper for in-game statistics and maintains statistical information for assigned sports.
Assists with day-to-day maintenance of a strategically utilized web 2/17/04 4 site with game-day production. Follow NCAA rules and regulations as they pertain to athletic communications along with NCAA approved statistical procedures
Manage, develop, implement and evaluate the marketing and communication strategic plans for MSUM Athletics.
Provide leadership and oversight of brand building, communications, and public relations strategies, which increase public awareness and visibility, and enhance MSUM’s athletics reputation and overall market competitiveness.
Create and implement strategic PR campaigns and media strategy including news releases, social media, media pitches and interview preparation that directly support the image and reputation of MSUM
Ensure Athletics marketing and communications graphics and design aligns with marketing strategies, branding/positioning goals, and graphic identity standards for the University.
Develop methods and practices to measure the outcomes and results of the marketing strategies, plans, and projects; share results with key University stakeholders.
Work collaboratively with MSUM partners and other key stakeholders to support MSUM communications, leverage national and international brand building campaigns, and ultimately strengthen MSUM’s athletic brands
Research, review and recommend marketing communications policies, procedures and standards for Dragon Athletics.
Identify and implement innovative and effective ways to promote the university, its key partnerships and initiatives
Developing and implementing an athletic sponsorships sales program, including the management of current clients as well as the identification and recruitment of new ones, with defined annual sales goals to grow net revenue for the Department.
Coordinate the fulfillment of all sponsorship obligations with the Athletics Staff and all appropriate outside agencies, as well as documenting and reporting on all sales activity, and radio production.
Manage and maintain the Department’s online presence and PR tools including oversight of digital media and external outreach including but not limited to the planning and production of radio, television, video and/or web-based commercials and programs
Manage the Athletics Department’s Marketing and Communications employees, marketing interns and student assistants to optimize the talents, skills and time of each.
Assist in the hiring new team members, including temporary, permanent, contract, and student employees.
Create performance plans for each member of the team.
Provide formal and informal performance feedback through daily 2/17/04 5 interactions and scheduled performance reviews.
Ensure development plans are supported in the budget process and through scheduling of projects. Ensure timely completion.
Manage disciplinary issues, including termination, if needed.
Understand related bargaining unit requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience in creating and facilitating strategic, marketing communications-based plans.
Experience with marketing, branding, graphic identity standards, communications, public relations, internal communications, publications and database systems.
Experience in marketing communications metrics and measurements of outcomes
Experience in media relations and publicity.
Advanced writing and editing ability/skills
Strong negotiation, verbal, written communication and organizational skills
Experience with using and applying marketing communications related software and tools
Experience with the major social networking functions and programs
Experience speaking in front of large groups, small audiences and over the radio
Ability to carry out and work with little supervision and guidance.
