The mission of the NC State University Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic, and personal aspirations as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University. The Sports Medicine Department is responsible for providing medical care for student athletes.
The Assistant Athletic Director (Assistant AD) for Mental Health and Performance Psychology (MHPP) will fulfill duties and responsibilities related to leadership and administration, providing professional mental health and performance psychology services to student-athletes, providing outreach and consultation services, providing specialized crisis intervention and follow-up services, and providing administrative as well as clinical supervision for staff and trainees (as appropriate).This position reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and the University Counseling Center. Essential Duties and Functions: Leadership: Provide leadership and oversight of department day-to-day and future operations. Manage and supervise MHPP department staff, including but not limited to: role delineation, departmental objectives, performance evaluations, and professional development plans. Develop a strategic plan for the advancement of mental health and performance psychology services for student-athletes in keeping with the University and Athletics Department’s mission and vision. Assist in developing and maintaining the operating budget based on strategic goals and using fiscally responsible practices. Facilitate higher level of care services for emergency mental health presentations when appropriate to support campus and sport reintegration efforts. MHPP Service Provision: Engage in counseling-related activities including, but not limited to, maintaining counseling records, referrals, and managing various organizational aspects of counseling cases. Maintain a clinical caseload of individual and team counseling and sport psychology services to student-athletes. Manage baseline testing and intake assessments to inform individual psychotherapy, health and behavior interventions, and performance consultations. Serve as point of contact for teams and facilitate team workshops based on empirically supported sport psychology principles. Outreach and Consultation: Collaborate with the Academic Support Program for Student Athletes (ASPSA), Campus Health Services, and the University Counseling Center to identify shared objectives and overlapping needs. Develop relationships with internal and external community partners to improve access to needed services. Deliver workshops and perform post-service delivery evaluations. Administrative: Consult and collaborate with members of the Pack Performance team, team physicians, coaches, and administrators. Collaborate with Student-Athlete Engagement and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) programs and initiatives related to mental health and well-being. Assist with providing supervision to pre-doctoral interns, and individuals seeking clinical licensure and/or certification as a mental performance coach as outlined by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), if applicable. Other: Coordinate and maintain good standing with licensure and accreditation organizations. Understand and ensure compliance with relevant NCAA, ACC, and NC State University policies and procedures and create a culture of compliance through actions and words. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling or related field from an institution of higher education. Licensed Mental Health Professional in the state of North Carolina or license-eligible with the ability to practice in the state of North Carolina within 6-12 months of hire.
Experience working collaboratively in a mental health setting Candidate must possess strong clinical skills and experience handling crises.
Experience utilizing a time-limited model of care. Experience working with Division I athletic departments. Experience working in a university counseling center.
Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health professional (psychologist, clinical mental health counselor, clinical social worker) in North Carolina. Completion or progress towards Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
