Functioning as member of the administrative team for the Embry-Riddle Athletics program, the primary purpose of the Assistant Athletic Director for Student Success is to develop, administer and oversee support services for student-athletes that focus on academic achievement, personal and career development, while also providing general leadership for the department.

The position will assess the needs of student-athletes, develop programs and provide services that enhance the academic experience, provide personal development resources, and encourage proactive career planning activities for student-athletes. With a goal of focusing on “Life in the Balance” concepts, the position will work to build an educational and developmental foundation, through policies and programs that promote a holistic and successful collegiate experience for all student-athletes, including the Ridder Transformational Program and BEST program. The work will aid in recruiting and retaining student-athletes by ensuring a positive collegiate experience in academic achievement, physical and mental health, inclusion and belonging, leadership, and personal development.

The position also coordinates and executes all administrative functions for the athletics department and more than 60 full-time, part-time, and student employees. This administrative role coordinates all human resource functions for the department including searches, appointments, and time reporting.

The position will serve as a member of the Athletic Department senior administrative team and represent the department as appropriate at department, University and community events. The position also provides oversight of multiple intercollegiate sport programs.

Student-athlete advocacy

• Manage the Ridder Transformational Program and oversee all components and committee work.
• Oversee the BEST program, and supervise all student tutors
• Cultivate partnerships with the Academic Advancement Center, Career Services, First Year Programs and the academic Colleges to provide tutoring, academic counseling and other outreach support for all student-athletes.
• Provide regular communication and education to student-athletes regarding academic information, study hall hours, tutoring services, campus resources and other pertinent information.
• Advise student-athletes on effective and appropriate ways of communicating with faculty, emphasizing academic rights and responsibilities.
• Work with the Faculty Athletics Representative to develop avenues of outreach to faculty, creating partnerships for increased participation in the student-athlete academic success process.
• Assist student-athletes with referrals to appropriate resources on campus for help with personal difficulties. Serve as a liaison with campus departments, community resources and service agents when needed.
• Using a variety of formats throughout the year, expose student-athletes and coaches to campus resources available to assist with student-athlete personal development including the Counseling Center, Health Services, Disability Support Services, Diversity & Inclusion, the Center for Faith and Spirituality, and the Dean of Students Office.
• Communicate University and Athletic department behavioral expectations to student-athletes and the campus community in a variety of formats, including the student-athlete handbook, the Athletics website, and other motivational methods as deemed appropriate by coaches and staff.
• Serve the student-athletes by handling grievances, advocacy, and life skills through a safe, open-door policy.

Athletic Administration

• Provide administrative supoort to the coaching staff of multiple sport programs.
• Meet with coaches and student-athletes regularly to assess sport programs and provide support as needed. Work with senior Athletic Administration to monitor all sports and provide administrative support where needed.
• Assist the Athletic Department in developing and maintaining internal support publications and documents such as a Student-Athlete Handbook, Policies & Procedures Manual for internal staff, and other motivational/contractual materials as needed.
• Serve on the Gender and Minority Equity Committee to develop a Gender Equity Plan for Athletics in compliance with NCAA/Title IX directives. Evaluate plan annually for progress.
• Serve as chair of the Athletics Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Work with committee members to develop a Diversity & Inclusion Plan for Athletics which reflects both the strategic vision of the NCAA and the vision of Embry-Riddle University. Work with campus partners to assess student-athlete needs and develop educational responses regarding diversity and inclusion.
• Serve as a member of the Athletic Department administrative team. Engage in long-range planning, policy development and general administration of the Athletics program.

Athletic Representation

• Travel in support of the Athletic program’s events and activities, and represent the department as necessary through an extended work schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
• Represent Embry-Riddle Athletics as part of campus or community events as appropriate.
• Support Embry-Riddle Athletics as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education:

• Master's Degree
• Area of Concentration: Athletic Administration or Leadership

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

• Knowledge of Athletics and NCAA Rules and Regulations. Proficient in Microsoft office systems (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
• 3-5 years of related work experience in Athletics
• Willing to work in a team environment and demonstrate excellent communication skills, positive attitude and give solution oriented ideas.
