Apply NowThis grant-funded position provides administrative support for new and ongoing initiatives in the areas of academics, leadership, student-athlete welfare and compliance/student services to support student-athletes in their growth and experience while at John Carroll. Job responsibilities will have an emphasis on assisting with student-athlete development including academic initiatives, personal growth and welfare, career readiness, leadership development, and community engagement.
Provides support in monitoring and educating student-athletes regarding academic services and degree completion. This includes liaising with the
JCU
Academic Success Center in coordination with academic advisors to enhance individual academic growth opportunities for student-athletes.
Monitors and reports academic progress of assigned student-athletes relative to
NCAA
, athletic conference, and University requirements.
Communicates with and supports student-athletes that have deficient mid-term grades and works with them to help establish an action plan for success.
Assists in resolving any scheduling or registration challenges.
In consultation with compliance officer and academic advisors, assists student-athletes with academic schedule development and major exploration and planning.
Connects athletes to cross-campus resources that aid in the development of well-rounded student-athletes, positioning them for success in their experiences beyond the playing fields.
Serves as referring agent to on-campus resources and offices for support services and programming.
Disseminates informational, educational and promotional materials for welfare and academic enhancement opportunities and resources. Liaison to and conduit between student-athletes and support resources across campus that aid in care and development of student-athletes.
Establishes and implements a comprehensive student-athlete leadership development program touching nearly 700 student-athletes.
Leads athletic department efforts in the areas of comprehensive health and wellness, professional development, personal excellence, community and campus engagement, and social responsibility.
Develop content, coordinate programming and monitor attendance/engagement for student-athlete workshops and events focused on academics, personal growth and wellness, career readiness and leadership development.
Supports the planning, execution and tracking of community engagement opportunities for student-athletes, teams, coaches, and department staff.
Maintains master calendar of events and opportunities and communicates to appropriate constituents clearly and consistently. This includes serving as liaison to sports information for updates on events and web site content along with collaborating on quarterly newsletter for internal and external constituents.
Works in conjunction with Sports Information Director to share content for use in newsletter and across all other available platforms.
Leads the “JCU Team Service Award” program.
Assists student-leaders in service projects and community outreach.
Serves as the primary advisor for Student-Athlete Advisory Council (
SAAC
).
Serves as liaison between Athletics and the Alumni Board.
Supports and guides student athletes’ faith life and expression through chaplaincy, and organize chaplain volunteers across all teams.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Athletics and National Engagement.
Bachelor’s degree.
Familiarity with educating students in a collegiate setting, including the creation and facilitation of leadership development programs, welfare initiatives, and academic support services.
Experience using technology for communication (including social media), data collection, and assessment and research initiatives.
Creative thinker with the ability to problem solve in a high-paced environment.
Passion for college athletics and mentoring student-athletes.
Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.
Master’s degree or Advanced Certifications in fields related to job responsibilities.
Familiarity with engagement programming and offerings through special event planning and communication.
Knowledge of and commitment to
NCAA
rules and regulations to provide organizational support for student-athlete eligibility certification process.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work with others.
This position works in person on our campus in University Heights, Ohio. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. However, this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate student-athlete schedules.
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Exempt (Salary)
Starting salary will be $38,000 – $46,000 (annual,10-month) commensurate with qualifications.
