Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications
| Overview |
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Director/Retail (Multiple). This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director for Equipment and Brand Management, this position assists with oversight of all aspects of the Athletic Department retail outlets, including locations within the Convocation Center, Recreation, Yordon Center, and any kiosk/remote setups. This position requires days, evening and weekend work hours.

Centrally located in DeKalb, Northern Illinois University is 30 miles west of Aurora, 65 miles west of Chicago, 36 miles west of Naperville, and 45 miles southeast of Rockford.

| Position Summary |
Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Equipment and Brand Management, this position assists with oversight of all aspects of the Athletic Department retail outlets, including locations within the Convocation Center, Recreation, Yordon Center, and any kiosk/remote setups.

| Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Retail Oversight – 35%

| Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service) |
1. Associate degree in any field or concentration including general studies.
2. Two (2) years (24 months) of experience in a retail environment
3. One (1) year (12 months) of supervisory experience in a retail environment.

| Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service) |
1. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
2. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
3. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
4. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
5. Skill in active listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
6. Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
7. Ability to supervise, motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
8. Ability to monitor/assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
9. Ability to effectively handle difficult and/or angry people.
10. Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
11. Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person.
12. Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.
13. Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
14. Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
15. Ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.
16. Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
17. Ability to observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
