Vassar College is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Athletic Trainer. The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine and supervises the care of student-athletes competing in the College’s 25 varsity athletic programs and four varsity club sports. This is an 11 or 12 month, full-time, benefit eligible position.
Vassar College sports medicine takes pride in a strong collaborative approach with our team physicians, health services, physical therapy group, and the strength and conditioning staff through weekly meetings, social outings, and an annual sports medicine summit in-service. The sports medicine department has strong support from the administration and coaches for authority concerning medical decisions and serves as a first stop for approving practice and contest scheduling.
The athletic department administration is committed to providing a balanced schedule for all staff members with regular time-off, and an open-door policy to discuss professional goals and needs.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Provide preventative, rehabilitative, and medical care for assigned teams and student-athletes in various settings— including before, during and after practices, contests, and during athletic training room hours.
Effectively communicate student-athlete status updates, limitations, and treatment plans to athletic training staff, student-athletes, coaches, team physician, college health center and strength and conditioning staff.
Refer injured student-athletes to, assist scheduling appointments for, and communicate with team physicians, medical offices, healthcare professionals and specialists regarding treatment and follow up care as needed.
Document any and all injury reports, doctor/provider visit notes, progress reports and final clearance notes with strict confidentiality. File injury claims with school secondary athletic insurance.
Sports assignments can vary based on the department needs and the candidate’s experience.
Weekend, holiday, early morning and/or late evening hours are required. Travel with athletic teams as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Assist in administrative tasks as needed. Examples may include but are not limited to: physical exam administration, inventory and budgeting, injury metrics analysis, injury documentation, and creating/ communicating regular limitation reports.
May participate in
NCAA
injury surveillance data collection, and work with the strength and conditioning staff and physical therapists to coordinate rehabilitation care.
Physical Demands:
Extensive standing or sitting in one position for long periods of time.
Physical demands of being able to lift up to 50 pounds, golf cart safety proficient.
Required
Bachelor’s degree.
Board of Certification (
BOC
) certified in Athletic Training and New York State.
Licensed in Athletic Training. American Red Cross (
ARC
) Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
0 to 2 years collegiate athletic training experience.
A valid driver’s license and the successful result of a background check are mandatory.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
Must have a demonstrated ability and commitment to the values and mission of Vassar College with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Ability to adapt willingly and quickly to changing schedules, priorities, responsibilities, and students’ or other department) needs and expectations.
Anticipate and identify students’ or department needs.
Ability to work independently while developing autonomy knowing there will be good support and mentorship from senior staff while maintaining good communication with direct supervisor.
Excellent verbal and written communications.
Preferred
Familiarity with Athletic Training System
EMR
software.
Willingness to engage in manual therapy and current rehabilitation techniques.
The starting annual base salary range for this position is $46,500-62,000.
