Job Description

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ), a vibrant and student-centered institution in West Hartford, Connecticut, invites applications for a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) to join its Athletic Department. USJ is experiencing an exciting period of growth and momentum, marked by the expansion of academic offerings, facility investments, and the continued development of its intercollegiate athletics programs.

The Certified Athletic Trainer will provide comprehensive athletic healthcare services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care, while working collaboratively with coaches, physicians, and campus partners. This position plays a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and overall well-being of USJ student-athletes while contributing to a positive, education-centered athletic experience consistent with NCAA Division III philosophy. 

Job Description:

  • Think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses for assigned intercollegiate sports.
  • Design and implement injury prevention programs, including conditioning guidance, taping/bracing, and education for student-athletes and coaches.
  • Provides coverage at USJ sponsored athletic practices and events, including on-site emergency medical care during practices, competitions, and conditioning sessions, including development and implementation of Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).
  • Always operates in high intensity and stressful environment with prioritization of student-athlete health. 
  • Maintain accurate medical records in accordance with HIPAA, NCAA, institutional, and state regulations.
  • Coordinate care with team physicians, specialists, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintain athletic training facilities, equipment, and supplies; assist with budget planning and inventory management.
  • Responsible for medical documentation of all athletic injuries, treatments and progress notes in an electronic medical records tracking system. Assist with pre-participation physicals, insurance claims, referrals, and medical clearance processes.
  • Work closely with coaches, strength and conditioning staff, and athletics administration to support student-athlete health and performance.
  • Support the academic success, personal growth, and overall well-being of student-athletes through mentorship and education.
  • May be required to teach one or two courses.
