Assistant Athletic Trainer

Pay Status and Classification: Exempt, Regular full-time. This is a 12 month position.

Supervisor: Head Athletic Trainer/Student-Athlete Program Director

Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the athletic department by providing care to student-athletes including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Union College sponsors 26 intercollegiate sports, 24 in Division III, with Ice Hockey competing at Division I. The College is committed to excellence in academics and athletics, diversity and a well-balanced, broad based intercollegiate athletics program dedicated to the concept of the student-athlete.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation, and Treatment: Develop and implement injury prevention programs. Provide first aid and emergency care when necessary. Evaluate and diagnose athletic injuries. Design and monitor rehabilitation programs for injured student athletes. Provides therapeutic treatment such as taping, bracing, and modalities.
  2. Communication and Collaboration: Educate student athletes on care and prevention of athletic injuries. Provide guidance on proper conditioning techniques. Communicate effectively with coaches and student athletes about injury status and progress. Coordinates with physicians and healthcare providers as needed.
  3. Administration: Provides support with the daily operations of the athletic training room and assists with the supervision of work study students. Electronic medical record keeping of athletic injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
