Job Summary

CU Boulder Athletics encourages applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer! The Trainer works within the Athletic Department's comprehensive Sports Medicine Program while ensuring the health and safety of all student-athletes. The role is based out of the Dal Ward Athletic Training Center and will work with men's and women's Cross Country and Track teams. Work includes: administering injury prevention measures for athletes; serving as first responder to injury situations; maintaining injury records; reporting on rehabilitation progress to coaches; and planning return-to-play for injured athletes in collaboration with team physicians and physical therapists. This position is pivotal in maintaining the highest standards of medical care, compliance with NCAA regulations, and ensuring a well-integrated health service approach across all student-athletes.

This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the BIG XII Conference and the NCAA.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Sport Coverage

• Injury Prevention and Care:

  • Has primary responsibility for all Cross Country and Track teams, which includes athlete injury prevention and care, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols.
  • Serve as the first responder to assigned teams' injury situations, ensuring immediate and effective care.

• Collaboration with Medical Staff:

  • Collaborate with team physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers to meet the medical needs of your assigned team(s).

• Medical Records and Communication:

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records for all assigned team(s).
  • Track rehabilitation progress and update the coaching staff regularly on the status of injured players.
  • Ensure flawless communication with the sports medicine staff, coaching staff, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, and physicians regarding injury status and participation ability.

• Health and Welfare Oversight:

  • Maintain continuous communication with the Head Coach regarding all health and welfare matters of assigned student-athletes.
  • Connect with Strength and Conditioning Coaches to assess each student-athlete’s health and ability to participate in training sessions.

• Injury Tracking and Reporting:

  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate, up-to-date injury records.
  • Provide injury reports to the coaching staff and collaborate on decisions regarding player participation.
  • Work with Sports Science department to identify data that can assist with injury prevention and athletic performance.

• Off-Season Conditioning:

  • Work with the athletic training staff to ensure NCAA-mandated coverage of all off-season conditioning sessions and non-traditional seasons.

• Health and Safety Education:

  • Coordinate and administer health and safety education programs for assigned coaches and Strength and Conditioning Coaches, ensuring all personnel are informed about the proper practices for player health and injury prevention.

• Physician Care Coordination:

  • Coordinate and manage physician care for assigned student-athletes, ensuring timely access to specialists and appropriate medical interventions when necessary.

Administration

• Leadership:

  • Serve on designated task forces and committees within the department as needed.
  • Assist in organizing Pre-participation Medical Exams for assigned team(s).

• Collaboration with Medical Providers:

  • Coordinate referrals to specialists, ensuring that student-athletes receive timely and appropriate care.

• Compliance & Health Policy Adherence:

  • Ensure compliance with all University, BIG XII Conference, NCAA, and other applicable regulations regarding student-athlete health, wellness, and safety.
  • Uphold the principles and core values of the Athletic Department, ensuring that the department’s mission is reflected in daily operations.

• Rehabilitation & Insurance Management:

  • Serve as the director of rehabilitation for your assigned team(s). Collaborate closely with team physicians regarding rehabilitation protocols and progress.
  • Work in partnership with the Medical Office Manager on insurance, billing, and treatment planning.

Student Athletic Trainer Program

• Assist in the supervision of a sports medicine intern program, which includes teaching and evaluation.

What You Should Know

• This position works variable hours based on rehab, practice, and competitions. Weekend, evenings, and holidays are required.
• Travel is required.
• This role is working in-person.

What We Can Offer

• The starting salary range is $64,000-$67,000 annually.

What We Require

• Bachelor's Degree in athletic training, kinesiology, health science, or a related field.
• One year experience in athletic training.
• NATABOC Certified athletic trainer.
• State of Colorado Athletic Training License or eligible to obtain.
• CPR/AED Certification.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

What We Would Like You to Have

• Master's Degree or equivalent experience in related field.
• 2 years as NATABOC Certified athletic trainer.
• Professional experience working with a wide range of collegiate sports.
