The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing athletic training services to the athletic department under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer.
Essential Job Duties
Provides athletic training services to practices and athletic events as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
Travel with assigned sports as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Sending appropriate information when referring athlete to the physician. (Primary and secondary insurance information, HIPAA release forms, injury reports, and rehabilitation records).
Initial paperwork for secondary insurance, documentation of athletic injuries, treatment and rehabilitations records.
Referral of athletes to be scheduled for physician appointments as appropriate.
Maintain athletic training lab hours in offseason to perform rehabilitation and assist with coverage of home events as needed.
Communicating with assigned coaches and assistant coaches as appropriate.
Assist Head Athletic Trainer in management of secondary insurance claims and processing.
Assist Head Athletic Trainer in management of budget and ordering supplies.
Summer coverage of athletic training lab for treatment, rehabilitation, and practice coverage.
Attended required meetings and appointments as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Assist with transportation for transportation of student-athletes to doctor appointments as appropriate.
Assist with weekend events as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Assist with early morning and late night practice and athletic training lab coverage as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Adheres to the Department of Athletic Training’s Policy and Procedure manual.
Regular attendance and punctuality.

Commitment and adherence to Southwest Baptist University’s Principles and Expectations.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervision of Sports Medicine students as assigned and part-time athletic training staff as appropriate.
Position Requirements
Required
Have/Maintain NATABOC requirements to be a Certified Athletic Trainer.
Have/Maintain Missouri Licensure to be a Certified Athletic Trainer.
Hold an earned academic bachelor’s or master’s degree or higher in CAATE accredited program.
Have/Maintain professional rescuer/first aid Certification.
Have 0-4 years of full-time work-related experience.
Preferred
Hold and earned master’s degree in a similar discipline or field.
2-4 years experience as a collegiate athletic trainer.
Instructor in professional rescuer and CPR with American Red Cross.
Work Environment
Must be able to work in athletic training room environment. Must be able to travel with athletic teams and be present for athletic events. Must be available for night and weekend responsibilities.
Physical Abilities
Be able to withstand outdoor and indoor environmental conditions day or night such as heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, wind, sun, etc.
Prolonged standing and/or sitting 5-8 hours.
Be able to drive a motor vehicle.
Be able to lift 50 to 75 lbs from ground to shoulder height repeatedly / daily.
Be able to sprint or run 200-300 yards.
Be able to bend, stoop, extend, flex, rotate at the ankles, knees, trunk, shoulders, and cervical regions to perform athletic training services duties.
