Job title: Assistant Athletic Trainer

FLSA Status: Full-time, 10-months non-exempt
SUMMARY- GENERAL PURPOSE
Serve as assistant athletic trainer and assist in managing the administration of all operations and staff of the medical care services to Randolph College student-athletes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist the head athletic trainer in directing all aspects of athletic training services to all intercollegiate athletic teams including practice and game coverage, injury recognition, treatment, rehabilitation and referrals.
2. Assist in maintaining accurate medical documentation.
3. Monitor and administer secondary insurance procedures and documentation.
4. Assist in maintaining proper athletic training inventory and budget of supplies.
5. Work closely with the orthopedic physicians in developing well-rounded high-quality treatment plans for student-athletes.
6. Schedule recommended orthopedics appointments for student-athletes.
7. Assist in the supervision and education of student employees.
8. Abide by the NATA Professional Code of Ethics and ODAC Athletic Training Manuel
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
1. Provide general counsel, guidance, and inspiration to students regarding their overall success, particularly including utilizing new student orientation activities, career services, academic success programs, living successfully in-residence halls and behaving with the College’s conduct expectations. Promote good sportsmanship.
2. Provide leadership and instruction by teaching no more than (1) 3 credit, academic class related to athletic training.
3. Perform additional department administrative duties as needed.
4. Preceptor for Athletic Training Students from the University of Lynchburg and Liberty University.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Serves as a member of the Department of Athletics and reports to the head athletic trainer. Assists with supervision of Randolph work-study assistant athletic trainers and interns from Lynchburg College. Must work effectively on a regular basis with members of the faculty and staff members in Athletics, Student Affairs, Health Center and other College offices.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in athletic training or sport related field. NATA BOC certification, Virginia state licensure, Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR or American Heart Health Care Professional CPR. Employee must have a commitment to the values, standards, and expectations of NCAA Division III athletics and a liberal arts college.
Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and insurance coverage (if driving own vehicle) or be insurable.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Must possess the following:
Knowledge of NCAA rules and conference athletic training policies and procedures.
Excellent communication skills including effective verbal and written abilities.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population (students, staff, faculty, and coaches).
Ability to positively influence public relations between the athletic department, the campus, and the community.
Computer and database skills required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent weekend and evening hours are required. Working environment includes both indoors and outdoors, exposure to weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Must have the physical ability to walk, lift up to 50 pounds, run, bend, twist, climb, see, hear, and communicate English, both verbally and in writing.
