Position Overview
The NCCU Department of Athletics’ primary purpose is to provide leadership for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives.
The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the University’s comprehensive sports medicine program. The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides coverage of the athletic training room and travels with athletic teams. The Assistant Athletic Trainer manages the care and prevention of athletic injuries, recognizes and manages injuries, oversees rehabilitation, evaluates sports injuries through independent judgment and discretion, and makes proper referrals of injuries as necessary.
Working knowledge of the physical training demands for various team and individual sports; ability to demonstrate communication skills necessary for dealing with student-athletes, coaching staff, and administrative personnel.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in physical therapy or health science, and 1 – 3 years of related experience at the collegiate level.Experience: Some medical experience preferred but not required.
Certificate/License: Must be NATA BOC certified and posses or be in the process of acquiring licensure, certification or registration from the state. F/cbl/CIC/Clinical ATC job duty

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Administrative
Assess individual student-athlete and administer preventative and post-injury treatments/rehabilitation of assigned student-athletes as needed throughout the year; determine needs, and perform emergency first aid techniques and transportation of assigned injured student-athletes as needed;
Administrative
Provide coverage of a sport(s) daily practices and home/away games; counsel injured/sick student-athletes and talk to parents of athletes as needed; make medical appointments/tests for injured student-athletes and follow up on results of evaluations/tests by medical providers.

Supervise field/court setup and breakdown of daily designated sport(s) practices and games; travel with designated sport(s) on away trips;
Administrative
Maintain accurate and up-to-date injury records, daily treatment records and other medical forms on student-athletes; assist in insurance claim process on injured athletes; coordinate and supervise pre-participation examination of assigned student-athletes;
