The Assistant Athletic Trainer partners with the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Trainer in managing and providing athletic training services with the goals of maintaining the optimal health, well-being, and performance of student athletes.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES
AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, the individual holding this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
• Independently provide immediate emergency medical attention and makes decisions regarding the appropriate course of action to ensure the safety and well-being of athletes.
• Evaluate injuries sustained by athletes. Uses judgment and discretion to determine and apply appropriate and effective medical care, including tape, special orthotic pads, braces.
• Develop and implement rehabilitative programs to facilitate physical improvement and performance specific to individual needs.
• Organize and implement pre-participation physical examinations. Collect and maintain all required documentation.
• Monitor and control environmental risks.
• Identify and correct common risk factors and conditions predisposing the athletes to increased risk of injury.
• Maintain health care records of athletes and manage insurance claims.
• Serve as a liaison between William Peace University and the team physician.
• Attend practices and home games for assigned teams and as scheduled including occasional travel to away games.
• Communicate decisions and plans with the coaching staff of the respective sports.
• Partner with the Head Athletic Trainer in the consideration, selection, and maintenance of athletic training equipment and medical supplies.
SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES
• May be asked to supervise athletic training students doing a clinical rotation at William Peace University.
• Monitor work-study students as necessary.

• Ability to demonstrate proper techniques and form of exercises.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to work in all climates and weather such as hot, cold, humid, rainy, and sunny conditions.
• Exhibit manual dexterity to operate both office and sport related equipment.
• Frequently is required to walk, sit, stand, and reach with hands and arms.
• Must be available to work a non-traditional, varying schedule that may include early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, overnight travel, and occasional holidays.
• Speak in audible tones so that others understand clearly, adjusting to a louder volume at practices, games, and other events as required.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates who apply within established recruitment dates are required to meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for employment. Minimum qualifications are the absolute smallest amount of experience and education that provide the ability to determine if the candidate could potentially perform well in the position. Preferred are the qualifications that enable a candidate to potentially excel in the position.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

NATABOC
Certification or eligible to receive licensure within 3 months of hire.
• NC State Athletic Trainer Licensed or eligible to receive licensure within 3 months of hire.

CPR

AED
for the Professional Rescuer or eligible to receive licensure within 3 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
· One year of experience in Athletic Training at the college or university level
· NC State Athletic Trainer License
