GENERAL OBJECTIVES

• The Assistant Athletic Trainer for DBU baseball is to provide leadership, mentorship, instruction, and support to the Athletic Training program as well as the DBU baseball program. The goal and objective of DBU Athletics is to develop Champions for Christ, both on and off the playing surface. The four pillars of the DBU Department of Athletics include academic excellence, athletic success, community engagement, and spiritual development.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's or master's degree in athletic training or related field
• LAT and Texas license
• BOC certified
• CPR/First Aide and AED certification
• Prior professional, minor league, and/or division I baseball experience and additional certifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees orthopedic injuries and general health/wellness of DBU baseball.
• Maintain injury prevention, injury treatment and injury rehabilitation programs.
• Maintain permanent injury and treatment EMR records.
• Maintain athletic training facilities for the treatment of student-athletes.
• Coordinate daily evaluations, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes.
• Work closely with the school's team physician in the operation of student-athlete overall health and wellness. Maintain a working relationship with local practitioners and surgeons to allow for the best care of the student-athletes.
• In cooperation with the team physician, advise the head coach on injured athlete's treatments, prognosis and restrictions.
• Accompany and provide transport (as needed) for players to MD appointments.
• Maintain inventory of athletic training supplies and equipment.
• Maintain physical and electronic files of all medical forms for student-athletes.
• Correspond with respective coaches and strength and conditioning coaches on training programs for individual student-athletes.
• Act as a liaison between club physician(s), front office, field staff, and players.
• Proactively identify areas that make organizational impact.
• Advise on the proper fitting of protective athletic equipment.
• Collaborate across departments, including (but not limited to): Video, Quantitative Analysis, Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning, Mental Conditioning, etc.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Director of Sports Medicine.

WORK SCHEDULE: 

A minimum of 40 hours per week or more is necessary to meet the requirements of the program. A typical workweek is expected in the 50 to 60+ hour range. Travel is required throughout the year for games.
