SUMMARY/SCOPE:
The athletic trainer will be responsible for delivering athletic medical care and related services to the student-athlete population at Hardin-Simmons University.
HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provision of athletic medical care: Possess the theoretical and practical knowledge to be able to practice independently in most situations as an athletic trainer. This includes but is not limited to clinical examination and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, decisions regarding injury prevention and risk management, and patient advocacy and mediation between physicians, athletic department staff, and family members when necessary.
Compliance: Ensuring adherence to NCAA, American Southwest Conference, and Hardin-Simmons University policies and procedures as they pertain to the practice of athletic training within the college and university setting.
Organization and Administration: Documents all patient encounters, assists with submission of qualifying secondary insurance claims, assists with verification of primary insurance, completion and collection of medical forms each year, as well as inventory and limited budgeting for supplies.
Communication: Thorough and frequent communication with fellow staff members, supervisors, physicians, coaches, patients, and family members of patients when applicable.
Clinical Education: Serving as a Clinical Preceptor to athletic training students in a CAATE accredited Master of Athletic Training program.
Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Athletic Training Services and/or Athletic Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise athletic training students and student-athletes in clinic and during practice/competition.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required.
Master's degree preferred.
C** ERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:**
Board of Certification (BOC certification), possess or be eligible for athletic training licensure in the sate of Texas, CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers or Professional Rescuers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is an Exempt Level Professional Position which often requires extended hours beyond a 40-hour work week, especially during the peak season(s) for sports.
Candidate must be able to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends depending on the time of year.
There are afternoon practices during season and competitions and performances in the afternoons and on weekends.
Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must be able to drive an automobile and 15-passenger van.
Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Additional travel may be required on occasion in order to attend training, etc.
