Job Summary

This position involves assisting the athletic training staff in providing comprehensive medical care for student-athletes and visiting teams. Responsibilities included injury care, prevention, and rehabilitation, with a commitment to inclusivity regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender. Emphasis is placed on prevention such as taping, protective equipment, flexibility training. Additionally, the incumbent will provide a professional clinical setting for Long Beach State students interested in pursuing a career in athletic training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cover home events (games and practices) and travel with assigned team(s). Assist team physician in physical examination and screening of student-athletes for physical eligibility.
  • Plan and implement rehabilitation programs for serious injuries or post-surgical conditions. Keep and maintain medical records for each athlete or sport, including date of injury, evaluation of injury, treatment or rehabilitation protocol and progress report.
  • Administrative duties as assigned by Head Athletic Trainer – in charge of inventory records, student athlete physicals, or insurance processing.
  • Assist in supervision of athletic training students in the training room and at the practice or competition facility.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of physical therapy modalities and treatment protocols to provide a standardized care for the student-athlete. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
