Job Summary
Works in conjunction with the Head Athletics Trainer and Athletic Training Staff in the daily operations of the athletic training room including all aspects of medical health care for the student athletes and direct supervision of student athletic trainers. Assists with the daily medical needs of the Softball Team and other assigned teams, as well as assisting with administrative duties.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the daily operations of the athletic training room including the direction of student athletic trainers in both their athletic training room and sport assignments in coordination with the College of Nursing faculty members.
Coordinate rehabilitation for student athletes assigned to this position and assists other athletic training staff with the rehabilitation of their athletes as needed.
Attend varsity practices and competitions assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer for the prevention and care of injuries sustained by student athletes.
Supervise graduate assistant athletic trainers assigned to this position in the daily medical care of student athletes.
Assist with the inventory and purchasing of medical supplies. Assists Head Athletic Trainer with overall budget.
Assume responsibilities of the Head Athletic Trainer in his/her absence in the supervision of the Athletic Training Facility.
Assist with departmental drug testing programs, and COVID Testing for all athletics programs.
Assist Assistant Athletics Trainer in charge of insurance in providing proper paperwork to ensure insurance claims and records for student athletes are submitted in a timely and efficient manner.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Athletic Training Education with NATABOC certification; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPR Certification. Must be eligible for licensure through the Mississippi State Department of Health
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or organizations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in sport management, science, business, or other related field.
