Position Summary

The successful candidate will possess the ability to recruit, develop, coach and assist a university men’s baseball program within the standards of The University of Olivet, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Qualifications

The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree and adequate knowledge about the fundamentals and techniques of baseball obtained through previously coaching at the high school and/or university level. Must be able to be cleared to drive university vehicles.

Along with the educational and sport experience, serious consideration will be given to the candidate whose characteristics coincide with the following principals: maintains and promotes the academic pursuits of The University of Olivet student-athletes; complies with and reinforces the Comet Athletic Program’s rules and mission; acts professionally and communicates appropriately with The University’s students, coaches, administration, staff, alumni and spectators; possesses a willingness to develop professionally.

Position Responsibilities

1. Assists and directs the operations of The University of Olivet Men’s Baseball program within the standards of The University, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
2. Assists in educating/coach student-athletes in the sport of baseball.
3. Assists in consistent, accurate, and varied pitches during batting practice and utilizing fungo hitting techniques during practice.
4. Possesses strong baseball knowledge, effective communication abilities, and a passion for coaching/player development.
5. Recruits prospective student-athletes according to the enrollment goals and admissions standards of The University of Olivet and the eligibility requirements of the MIAA and NCAA.
6. Assists in the selection of team members.
7. Assists with schedules and coordinates competition schedules, team travel accommodations, team tryouts, practices, meetings, individual workouts and conditioning sessions.
8. Assists with the coordination of the issuance, care, inventory, and collection of equipment, uniforms and supplies for men’s baseball. Submits appropriate equipment inventory forms to the Athletic Director within the requested times.
9. Assists in managing sports budget and coordinates team fund raising activities.
10. Assists in purchases and manages team equipment and supplies.
11. Assists in coordinating facility usage for the men’s baseball program.
12. Assists with supervision, management, set-up and clean up at home junior varsity men’s baseball events.
13. Assists with process to ensure the proper completion of physical examinations and all forms relating to the examinations and emergency medical authorization before a student participates.
14. Assists with the coordination and help lead at least one team community service project during each academic year.
15. Assists with the supervision of student-athletes at all times, including practices, meetings, workouts, travel and other team functions.
16. Attends all athletic department meetings and appropriate university functions (pep rallies, Hall of Fame inductions, homecoming, etc.).
17. Exhibits appropriate conduct with students, coaches, administration, staff, alumni, spectators, officials and opponents at all times.
18. Assists with collecting and submitting appropriate student-athlete eligibility forms.
19. Provides leadership that promotes positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.
20. Assists with notifying all team members of all Comet Athletic Program’s policies, procedures and training rules as they pertain to the team.
21. Maintains current certifications in CPR and First Aid to be held on file in the Office of Athletics.
22. Submits driving record verification for clearance to drive institutional vehicles.
23. Works within the missions and philosophies of the Comet Athletic Program and The University of Olivet.
24. Exhibits personal conduct that promotes attitudes and behaviors among student-athletes that coincide with the policies outlined in the Comet Athletic Handbook.
25. Makes decisions that positively affect the Comet Athletic Program.
26. Maintains proper perspective regarding the priorities of academics and athletics at The University of Olivet.
