POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Baseball Coach works under the supervision of the Head Baseball Coach. This role is responsible for assisting in the comprehensive day to day operations of the collegiate baseball program. Candidates are required to excel in communication skills, punctuality, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Irregular work hours such as weekends, holidays, and evenings are to be expected. Responsibilities: • Assist in designing and implementing practice plans and training sessions focused on skill development, strength conditioning, and strategy. • Provide individualized coaching and feedback to student-athletes to enhance their technical proficiency, tactical awareness, and overall performance. • Collaborate with the coaching staff to identify areas for improvement and tailor training programs to address specific needs. • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes personal growth, teamwork, and accountability. • Assist in scouting opponents, analyzing game footage, and developing game plans and strategies. • Help coordinate pre-game warm-ups, infield/outfield practice, and other game day preparations. • Provide in-game support to players and coaches. • Assist with in-game decision-making and adjustments based on opponent tendencies and game situations. • Assist in the recruitment of student-athletes by evaluating talent, attending showcases, and building relationships with high school coaches and prospects. • Participate in campus visits, tours, and recruiting events to showcase the university and the baseball program. • Maintain a database of prospective student-athletes and track their academic and athletic progress. • Communicate effectively with recruits and their families to convey the opportunities available at Avila University • Monitor the academic progress and performance of student-athletes, providing guidance and support as needed. • Collaborate with academic advisors, tutors, and support services to ensure student-athletes are meeting eligibility requirements and academic goals. • Emphasize the importance of academic success and personal responsibility both on and off the field. • Help create a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, and respect. • Assist with team travel arrangements, equipment management, and facility scheduling. • Collaborate with athletic department staff on fundraising, community outreach, and promotional activities. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director. Qualifications: • Collegiate baseball playing and/or coaching experience. • Bachelor’s degree, required. Master degree, preferred. NAIA and/or private, value-based University experience preferred. • Irregular work hours such as weekends, holidays, and evenings are to be expected. • Multilingual skills highly preferred. • Ability to contribute to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
