_ JOB SUMMARY _

The Assistant Basketball Coach I is responsible for assisting the Head Basketball Coach with developing and administering a highly competitive basketball program. The Assistant Basketball Coach I will abide by University, Lone Star Conference and NCAA rules and regulations; and along with all other athletics personnel, will work towards achieving the objectives of Intercollegiate Athletics. Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

_ ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS _

Reports to: Head Basketball Coach

Supervises:No supervisory responsibilities

_ ESSENTIAL DUTIES - _May include, but not limited to the following:

1. Assists the head coach in managing and directing the basketball program.
2. Assists with daily practice execution and oversight of workouts with position groups as assigned by the Head Coach.
3. Assists in planning of team travel, team procurement, day-to-day logistics, and other required departmental and NCAA paperwork.
4. Assists the head coach with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes and contact with their coaches throughout the recruiting process including but not limited to phone calls, evaluations, off-campus recruiting, and planning/coordinating on-campus visits.
5. Facilitates student-athletes’ academic meetings and monitor study hall requirements.
6. Assists in the planning and execution of fundraising and alumni relations activities.
7. Assists with coordinating facility needs of visiting teams.
8. Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the University, Lone Star Conference and the NCAA with the utmost integrity.
9. Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attend department meetings and activities, and always represents the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and general public.
10. Completes other assigned administrative duties in a timely manner.

_ ADDITIONAL DUTIES _

• Attends seminars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
• Implements Intercollegiate Athletics’ strategic plan as part of the Division of Student Life’s strategic plan.
• Performs other duties as requested.

_ EDUCATION _

Bachelor’s degree required.

Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire and will be required prior to participation in any countable athletically related activities as defined by the NCAA.

_ EXPERIENCE _

Two years minimum of NCAA collegiate basketball experience and/or experience in a highly competitive basketball program for a non-NCAA organization or high school/travel ball program.

_ REQUIREMENT _

Valid Texas driver’s license and a safe driving record such as required by the university for Driver’s Authorization

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

• Ability to teach the fundamentals of basketball both technically and tactically.
• Knowledge of basketball rules of the game.
• Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
• Ability to safely teach skill progression.
• Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the University, Lone Star Conference, and the NCAA.
• A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to attend seminars, meetings, and other professional development opportunities at or away from TWU.
• Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
• Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
• Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
• Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
• Ability to communicate effectively – orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
• Ability to operate essential office equipment that is necessary to perform the functions of this job.
• Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.
• Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.

Employees must report any unsafe work conditions or practices, as well as any near-miss incidents, to their supervisor and Risk Management. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources and Risk Management within 24 hours of the incident.
