The Assistant Volleyball Coach supports all aspects of the women's volleyball program, including recruiting, student-athlete development, practice planning, match preparation, and administrative responsibilities. This position plays a vital role in promoting the mission of Wingate University and fostering a culture of competitive excellence, academic success, and personal development among student-athletes.

Primary Responsibilities

Coaching & Player Development

• Assist the Head Volleyball Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and competitions

• Provide technical instruction and skill development for student-athletes

• Assist with game preparation including scouting reports, video breakdown, and match strategy

• Support strength and conditioning integration with the volleyball program

• Contribute to individual athlete development plans

Coaching & Player Development

• Assist the Head Volleyball Coach in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and competitions

• Provide technical instruction and skill development for student-athletes

• Assist with game preparation including scouting reports, video breakdown, and match strategy

• Support strength and conditioning integration with the volleyball program

• Contribute to individual athlete development plans

Recruiting

• Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who align with the program’s athletic and academic standards

• Build and maintain recruiting databases and communication with prospects

• Coordinate recruiting visits (official and unofficial)

• Attend recruiting events, tournaments, and showcases

• Ensure compliance with NCAA recruiting regulations

Operations & Administration

• Assist with team travel planning and logistics

• Support video analysis and technology used for scouting and performance review

• Assist with camps, clinics, and community engagement events

• Help coordinate team functions and alumni relations

Student-Athlete Development

• Promote academic success and monitor student-athlete progress

• Foster leadership, accountability, and personal growth among student-athletes

• Support a positive team culture aligned with the values of Wingate Volleyball and Wingate Athletics

Compliance

• Adhere to all rules and regulations of the NCAA, conference affiliation, and Wingate University

• Maintain knowledge of compliance policies and complete required institutional training

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience in volleyball

• Strong knowledge of volleyball systems, training methods, and recruiting strategies

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Ability to work nights, weekends, and travel frequently

Preferred Qualifications

• Collegiate coaching experience (NCAA preferred)

• Experience with recruiting databases and video platforms (Volleymetrics, HUDL, etc.)

• Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop high-level student-athletes

Work Environment

This position requires evening and weekend hours, frequent travel for recruiting and competition, and the ability to work in a fast-paced intercollegiate athletics environment.
