The Assistant Coach for Competitive Dance is a full-time, 12 month position and is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the Gannon University Competitive Cheer & Dance program, with a primary focus on supporting competitive dance. The program competes at the intercollegiate II level and attends the NCA & NDA Collegiate National Championship annually. Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Recruits quality academic students who are also competitive student-athletes.
Trains, strengthens, and develops all dance student-athletes on a year-round schedule, under the direction of the Head Coach. Assists with these functions for all student-athletes at the request of the Head Coach.
Learns, understands, and complies with all NDA safety rules (dance), AACCA rules (cheer), and Gannon University regulations.
Promotes and represents the University whenever possible.
Assists in the development and implementation of a year-round strength and conditioning program for the team.
Assists with administrative tasks related to the Competitive Cheer & Dance program as requested by the Head Coach.
Assists in the development and implementation of camps and clinics.
Provides high level instruction in the following styles of dance: hip hop, pom, jazz, and gameday. May include choreography.
Teaches advanced tricks, turns, leaps, and specialty skills safely and with proper technique.
Performs other duties as assigned within the scope and responsibility and requirements of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Experience: Competitive collegiate and/or performance experience.
Skills: Must have excellent communication skills and technical knowledge of sport-specific skills identified above for dance, combined with the ability to effectively teach and coach them.
Licenses and Certifications : A valid driver’s license in good standing. Per Gannon’s Institutional Policy Manual there can be no suspensions on the Motor Vehicle Record for 5 years prior to being hired. Must successfully complete the required safety courses for USA Cheer/USA Dance. AED/CPR/First Aid Certified.
University Mission: Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
Education: Master’s degree.
Experience: Collegiate coaching experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy athletic team schedule.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a busy University setting. The work schedule will vary with heavier emphasis September through April.
