Assistant Coach, Football

Job Summary

The Assistant Football Coach assists the Head Football Coach in the administration and daily operation of the football program. The position is responsible for coaching assigned position groups, recruiting prospective student-athletes, supporting academic success and retention efforts, participating in program administration and budget management, and ensuring full compliance with NCAA, conference, Texas State University System, and university rules and regulations.

Coaching and Player Development:

Recruiting and Student-Athlete Retention:

• Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations.
• Develop and maintain recruiting networks and relationships with high school coaches and prospects.
• Promote the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes.
• Encourage and support student-athletes' progress toward degree completion and graduation.

Fundraising, Community Engagement, and Media Relations:

• Participate in fundraising and development initiatives in coordination with the Head Football Coach and Athletics administration.
• Represent the football program at community events and public appearances.
• Serve as a program representative to the media, as appropriate, in coordination with Media Relations and Athletics leadership.

Operational Support and Game Preparation:

• Assist with travel coordination, practice logistics, and equipment needs as assigned.
• Support overall team operations and special projects as directed by the Head Football Coach.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• One (1) to two (2) years of NCAA Division I coaching experience or closely related experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop student-athletes.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or comparable software applications.Demonstrated commitment to compliance and ethical conduct in collegiate athletics.

Desired Qualifications:

• Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Prior experience recruiting within the Southland Conference or a comparable Division I conference.
• Experience with film analysis software and football performance technologies.
• Demonstrated success in fundraising or community engagement initiatives.

• Knowledge of NCAA Division I and applicable conference rules and regulations; football coaching principles and position-specific techniques; recruiting processes and student-athlete eligibility standards; athletics program administration and budget fundamentals; and Microsoft Office and football-related technology systems.

Skills:

• Skill in coaching and developing collegiate student-athletes; evaluating and recruiting athletic talent; analyzing game film and developing practice and game strategies; effective verbal and written communication; organization and time management; and collaboration within a coaching and athletics administration environment.

Abilities:

• Ability to recruit and mentor student-athletes in compliance with NCAA and institutional regulations; motivate and support student-athletes academically and athletically; work extended and irregular hours; travel extensively; exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality; and professionally represent the university in community, donor, and media settings.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
• Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to travel as required for recruitment and team competition.

Job Conditions:

• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
• Requires travel and a flexible schedule consistent with collegiate athletics operations.
