Job Title: Assistant Coach – Men’s & Women’s Swimming

Reports To: Head Men’s & Women’s Swim Coach

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise graduate assistant coaches, scouting, recruitment of student athletes, monitoring academic progress of athletes, scheduling swim meets, ensuring compliance with NCAA D11 and BMC conference rules and regulations, and eligibility of athletes. Supervise and participate in the recruitment of student athletes. This includes interviewing, screening, assessment / evaluation, and meeting with coaches, counselors, principals, teachers and parents to facilitate the process.
Summary Description: Reporting to the head swim coach, this position is responsible for the development of a competitive Men’s and Women’s swimming program within the guidelines of the NCAA 011, BMC, and Carson-Newman University. Includes all aspects of a collegiate swimming program: recruiting, scouting, budgeting, planning, organizing, scheduling, monitoring academic performance and promoting intercollegiate athletics. Teaching responsibilities and Christian values will also be included.

Oversee men’s and women’s swimming program. This includes supervision of Graduate assistant coaches, scouting, recruitment of student athletes, monitoring academic progress of athletes, setting up swim meets, ensuring compliance with NCAA Oil and BMC conference rules and regulations, and eligibility of athletes.
Participate in the recruitment of student athletes. This includes interviewing, screening, assessment / evaluation, and meeting with coaches, counselors, principals, teachers and parents to facilitate the process.
Plan and manage team travel such as time schedules, transportation by bus/vans, lodging accommodations, meal and accommodations, insurance coverage and schedules for contests and practice. Ensure travel arrangements are within budget constraints and are safe for the swimmers’ and coaches’ welfare .
Supervise and manage the inventory of sports equipment. This involves the selection and purchase, reconditioning, checking standards and ensuring safety and accountability of physical assets.
Supervise and manage the facility to facilitate meets and practices. Coordinate the facility arrangements, ensure safety of equipment, pool area/deck and building, and secure facilities at end of practices.
Plan, organize and participate in practice and meets. This involves athlete conditioning, planning sets, oversight of practices, review current rules and regulations, and participate in media coverage of events.
Speak and participate in promotional activities and assist the Director of Athletics in fundraising activities. Work with gifted athletes to promote their continued play in non-college entities. Speak at sports banquets. Work in liaison with community groups to encourage and foster their participation in athletic activities or events.
Work in liaison with faculty, administrators, and staff to coordinate academic and athletic
efforts and to share resources and ideas. Supervise graduate assistant coaches and student Work Study employees.
