Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball

Role: The Assistant Coach is responsible for providing Christian leadership principles to a winning basketball program within the framework of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletic department. In addition, the Assistant Coach is to help establish an environment in which student-athletics develop as well as mature spiritually, academically, socially and athletically with the purpose of each performer and team reaching their potential. All activities of this position are to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletic department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

Responsibility A: To assist the basketball program within the framework of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletic department.

1. Read and follow all provisions as outlined by the Policies and Procedures Manual of the University and the Intercollegiate Athletic Department
2. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested time frame and attend allstaff meetings
3. Know the rules and regulations of the NCAA and PacWest to ensure compliance with departmental, University, conference, and national policies
4. Within the framework of NCAA policies, recruit prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessary to be successful academically and athletically

Responsibility B: To establish an environment in which student-athletes develop as well as grow spiritually, academically, socially and athletically.

1. Maintain the development and welfare of the student-athlete as the number one priority of the program
2. Ensure academic success, focusing on classroom achievement and graduation requirements
3. Provide leadership that promotes positive Christian attitudes and good sportsmanship with allstudentathletes
4. Work with student-athletesin a fair, understanding, tolerant, sympathetic, and patient manner
5. To student-athletes, provide instruction and spiritual guidance that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of athletics; motivate the team for maximum performance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs ofstudents and that are consistent with Athletic Program philosophy

Responsibility C: To develop, establish, and maintain a winning basketball program within the framework of the mission of the University and the Intercollegiate Athletic Department.

1. Display good sportsmanship in relationships with students, staff, officials, and opponents as consistent with NCAA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct
2. Maintain up-to-date information ofsport regulations, rule changes, and NCAA policies
3. Develop in each student-athlete a respect for University property and its care
4. Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff personnel and in the development of roles and responsibilities
5. Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment
6. Adhere to all institutional, PacWest, and NCAA bylaws and regulations
7. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes
8. Establish and ensure a safe environment forstudent-athletes
9. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of the Athletic Department

Responsibility D: Perform all other duties and/or responsibilities as needed and/or as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or University administration.

1. Supervise home events as assigned by the Athletic Director
2. Fundraise

Specific responsibilities include:

1. Educate prospective student-athletes and enrolled student-athletes about NCAA Division II, PacWest, and institutional rules
2. Submit and log off-campusrecruiting contacts and evaluations
3. Self-report NCAA Division II rules violations to the Compliance Office

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university; two-five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
