Assistant Coach – Men’s & Women’s Soccer

Function of Position : Responsible to both the men’s & women’s soccer head coach to recruit, lead, encourage, and support students involved in both men’s & women’s soccer programs, and to support the head coaches with program oversight in accordance with the mission and guidelines of Bethany Lutheran College, NCAA, UMAC, and Title IX rules and regulations. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Assist both head coaches with program goals and development (won-loss record, summer camps, summer league).
2. Recruit student-athletes.
3. Develop, implement, and evaluate drills, practice plans, conditioning programs, and game strategies.
4. Evaluate student-athlete talent and level of improvement.
5. Monitor use of and assist in care of indoor and outdoor facilities.
6. Monitor use of and assist in care of equipment and supplies; maintain accurate records.
7. Maintain knowledge of and enforce all team, institutional, UMAC, and NCAA rules.
8. Maintain open lines of communication with student-athletes.
9. Care for, monitor, and develop student-athlete physical, spiritual, emotional, academic, and psychological skills and well-being.
10. Provide positive Christian leadership for student-athletes and program.
11. Encourage and promote good teamwork and positive behavior.
12. Present proper role model for student-athletes.
13. Research, refine, and continue to develop knowledge of soccer rules, regulations, and policies affecting responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with athletic participants, staff, and parents of student athletes.
• Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres.
• Knowledge in the sport of soccer, as well as basic technical expertise in coaching principles.
• Leadership skills to mentor and develop student-athletes, assistant coaching or program instruction staff and skills in effective assistant coaching.
• Proven ability to teach soccer to individuals and the team as a whole.
• Superior organizational skills required in order to set priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills, verbal / written / social media vital to dealing with our players and staff, as well as within the larger department, with alumni, and recruits and their families.
• Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making and be an effective problem solver.
