This position is responsible for coaching student-athletes in competitive dance techniques to prepare them for events and/or competition. Position motivates student-athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. The Coach is responsible for setting and conducting practice times after academic classes and supervising the team at games, camp, and any other activity where the team dances. Must have extensive training and experience in choreography. Requires excellent communication, managerial, and planning skills. This is a classified part-time position.
Examples of Duties
Identify and recruit a diverse group of student-participants who will positively represent Saluki Athletics and the University.
Coaches and instructs student-participants, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
With Athletic admin, maintains a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development. Works with game production staff.
Organize and run effective warm up, practices and games. Create, clean, and/or teach routines. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Observes student-participants during events and practice, to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Assesses skills and assigns team positions.
Attends tryouts, practices, games, competitions, and spirit camp.
Participates in fundraising and public relation activities.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision and discipline of students at all times.
Has current CPR and first aid certification and follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
Keep on hand eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records as provided by the Athletics department.
Conferences with the Athletic admin and parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of and/or disciplinary actions taken with students.

Follows state and regional regulations governing the program; including but not limited to University, MVC, and NCAA rules.
Models positive sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
Promotes a spirit of cooperation and friendship between the cheerleaders and the dance team.
Promote the safety, welfare and academic progress for student-participants.
Encourages student-participants to participate in campus events and service projects.
Help plan and facilitate group and morale-building activities for the team.
Manage the daily administrative duties of the program including budget management.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by Athletics or other appropriate Athletics administrators.
This position works events outside the normal 8-5 business hours, sometimes in inclement weather, weekends and holidays.
Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills related to dance, stunting, and choreography.
Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the spirit team.
## Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, by date of hire and one (1) year of dance coaching/advising experience. Demonstrated leadership skills and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Collegiate spirit group coaching/advising.
