| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.

| Position Summary |
Assist with coaching intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s Swimming by instructing team concepts, position skills, and promoting safety matters during practices and during competition; assist with organizing and conducting practice sessions. Help plan and execute a training program with coaching staff with emphasis on team building, improvement and winning; exhibit excellence in recruiting efforts. Encourage and promote excellence in academics, athletics, and life-skills to student athletes. Abide by all UNC, ACC, and NCAA regulations.

| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.

| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience working with national & international level swimmers; recruiting; helping to coordinate and oversee practices and events; maintaining team data and records. Strong administrative and computer skills are essential as is a willingness to contribute to team goals. Ability to help manage team budgets. Strong interpersonal communications skills, integrity, leadership, and knowledge of the sport required. USA Swimming Coaching credentials and maintaining certifications in good standing required. Must have a strong commitment and ability to lead, teach, motivate, and recruit academically qualified student-athletes.

| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Knowledge of NCAA rules/regulations and swimming coaching experience at the intercollegiate level preferred.

| Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Must be able to lift/move 25 lbs or greater. Must be able to manage a fast-paced, high volume environment. May be required to navigate stairs. Evening, night and weekend work as required. Travel required.
|
| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
