POSITION SUMMARY
The successful candidate will assist the head coach in the organization and management of a competitive NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse program.The position responsibilities will include teaching and coaching student-athletes for successful competition; supporting student-athletes’ academic success; recruiting prospective students; scouting opponents; fundraising; developing alumnae and parent relations; team travel planning; administrative tasks; and other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities:
·Teaching and Coaching:
oteach student-athletes all related principles and rules of the sport
oassist in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of practice and game plans
ooperate digital platforms to develop training, practice and game plans
omaintain an exemplary standard of conduct, which reflects the highest level of professionalism and good judgment
obe knowledgeable of and compliant with all institutional, department, NCAA and conference policies, rules and regulations
·Counseling and Advisement of Student-Athletes:
odevelop and maintain effective communication with student-athletes
oreinforce academic success as a priority
oencourage student-athletes to foster a positive relationship with faculty, deans and staff
·Recruiting:
oeffectively recruit prospective student-athletes under the direction of the head coach and consistent with the Colleges’ mission
omaintain the sport-specific recruiting electronic database
orecruit student-athletes who coincide with the academic profile of HWS students
omaintain open communication with other William Smith coaches regarding shared prospects
·Professional Development:
omaintain active membership in professional sport organizations
opursue formal and informal educational opportunities
oparticipate in department seminars
·Community Engagement/Fundraising
opromote the sport and William Smith Athletics in area communities
omaintain a positive relationship with interested constituents (e.g. youth groups, civic organizations, media)
oassist in the planning and management of fundraising activities
odevelop a positive relationship with William Smith alumnae and parents
·Operational Team Responsibilities (approximately 30% of full time responsibilities):
oserve on Athletics Department operational teams, specifically game day management for other sports when not in season
oassist with special events (e.g. Awards Banquet, Heron Hall of Honor)
oassist with department initiatives
Other Information:
This is afull-time, 10-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Evening and weekend work are required. Salary is $48,715 annually.
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.A minimum of four years lacrosse playing and/or coaching experience at the college-level required.Candidates must demonstrate strong potential to teach, lead and counsel college student-athletes and have enthusiasm for the recruiting duties of the position.The candidate must be a person of integrity, high ethical standards, have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and mission of HWS Athletics.Competence with technology resources and a current U.S. driver’s license are vital to fulfilling the responsibilities of this position.
