Overview

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in formulating, teaching, and coaching technical aspects of game preparation and strategy for a Division I intercollegiate athletic program. Responsibilities include directing competitions, practices, administrative activities, alumni relations, and the recruitment process for student-athletes. The Assistant Coach develops the varsity sports program within the parameters and regulations of the Ivy League, other athletic leagues, the NCAA, and the University. This role requires maintaining a working knowledge of effective coaching techniques, organizing and managing all facets of the program, and ensuring the success and academic progress of student-athletes.

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of effective coaching techniques and best practices, with the ability to work in a diverse environment and maintain effective relationships with administrators, parents, students, and alumni.
  2. Ability to organize and manage all facets of the program, including recruiting, scouting, budget planning, individual instruction, and monitoring academic progress.
  3. Ability to lead and work independently as well as within a team environment, maintaining confidentiality when necessary.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, and university administration.
  5. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, with travel as required.
