Job Summary:

The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Coach for Women’s Ice Hockey are to assist the Head Coach in the management and administration of a Division I Women’s Hockey program. The core responsibilities of the Assistant Coach are to recommend, implement and execute a successful recruiting philosophy and strategy to ensure student-athletes are committed and engaged academically, athletically, and socially. In addition, the Assistant Coach is responsible for preparing student-athletes both on and off the ice with instruction of an academic and personal nature. The Assistant Coach will also serve as coordinator for position-specific players and will assist in the development of all position players.

Preferred Qualifications:

Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience in ice hockey, including recruiting, player development, NCAA compliance, and student-athlete support.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
• Familiarity of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
• Ability to initiate, develop and maintain appropriate contacts.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
• Ability to work with a diverse population of student-athletes, parents, coaches, and administrators
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
• Ability to identify athletic skill levels of potential student athletes

Representative Job Duties:

• Serve as a coordinator for position-specific players and special teams. Assess individual and team skills and abilities, on and off the ice, and develop strategies for capitalizing on strengths and improving weaknesses. Organize, prepare, and conduct individual and team practices, games, training, and competition.
• Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes academic progress and places the welfare, retention, eligibility, and graduation of student-athletes at the forefront of the program. Assist in administering study hall and other academic support needs of student-athletes. Coordinate the admissions process for incoming first-year students from application through admission decision in collaboration with the Admissions Office.
• In consultation with the Head Coach, implement and execute a successful recruiting philosophy and strategy that attracts student-athletes who will succeed both academically and athletically. Coordinate all communication with prospective student-athletes and manage official and unofficial campus visits.
• Ensure the Women's Hockey program complies with all NCAA, conference, and RPI rules and policies related to the recruitment, eligibility, and retention of first-year, transfer, and continuing student-athletes.
• Coordinate community and campus events and activities. Participate in and support fundraising, marketing, and promotional events as assigned. Work with alumni and support alumni engagement activities for the Women's Hockey program.

Shift:

Non Standard Shift: Non-standard work schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during the competitive season, recruiting periods, team travel, and special events.

Travel:

Significant travel (greater than 25%) is required for recruiting, NCAA competition, team travel, professional development, and other program-related activities. Overnight and weekend travel is expected.

Driving:

Must be able to operate a vehicle for business purposes, including recruiting, team travel, and attendance at university and community events. A valid driver's license and the ability to meet the Institute's driver authorization requirements are required.

Starting Salary/Rate:

Expected hiring range: $75,000 - $81,500

This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
