The Bowdoin College Athletic Department supports 31 varsity programs, two club programs and a variety of intramural sports. More than one-third of the student body participates in a varsity athletic program and multi-sport participation is encouraged. Bowdoin participates in

competition and is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (
NESCAC

The Assistant Coach of Women’s Lacrosse assists in all aspects of the intercollegiate teams including coaching, recruiting, scheduling, program administration and budgeting. Additional responsibilities may include administrative duties as assigned at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.

Bachelor’s degree (Physical Education or related field) preferred OR a minimum of 5 years of coaching experience at the post secondary level and/or professional competitive experience.
Knowledge Women’s Lacrosse skills and strategy and the ability to effectively teach them
Ability to motivate and effectively communicate with student-athletes
Willingness and ability to actively recruit qualified candidates to Bowdoin
Commitment to being a positive member of the Athletics Department, the College community and the ability to influence his/her athletes to do the same
Working knowledge of
NCAA
and
NESCAC
rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them.
Administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting are needed.
The coach must be self directed and motivated and be able to work independently and work under pressure.
A valid driver’s license and ability to meet the standards of the College’s current Motor Vehicle Policy are required.

Demonstrated effectiveness in coaching Women’s Lacrosse is required.
At least two years experience coaching at the secondary or post secondary level or two years experience working in a competitive collegiate environment.
Successful recruiting to a highly selective institution is preferred.
Variable depending on season.
Ability to work weekends and evenings. *Coaches are expected to be on campus during the academic year (late August – early June) and are expected to keep hours during this time that make them readily available to students.
For full time coaches, this may involve greater than 40 hours per week in season of primary sport and varied weekly hours out of season. *It is expected that coaches will recruit during the summer months requiring possible additional travel. *Frequent overnight travel with student athletes is required during the Women’s Lacrosse season.
This position is full-time working 38 hours/41 weeks (0.75
FTE
). Hours may vary to support the season, team, and department. This is an exempt position requiring the time commitment necessary to satisfactorily complete all job requirements.
