Recreation administration, the Assistant Coaching Instructor, Rowing Club will assist with the direction, instruction, and administration of the John Carroll University Rowing Club. This position provides coaching instruction, administrative support, and advisement to student leaders and other members of the club to help accomplish their goals and further the mission of the university. They are also responsible for assisting with compliance of applicable university, department, league/conference, and national governing body regulations.
Assist head coach with coaching and advising a rowing club of 15-30 members
Assist head coach with on- and off-water training programs throughout the academic year, including during university breaks, as needed
Assess rowing skills and abilities, and give constructive and technical feedback
Attend weekly practices at the Cleveland Rowing Foundation and on campus
Travel with club to off-campus regattas, events, and tournaments
Assist head coach and club officers with practice, gameday, and travel arrangements
Assist head coach with boathouse and shell maintenance, repair, and upgrades at the Cleveland Rowing Foundation
Collaborate and partner with the Cleveland Rowing Foundation and other universities on rowing community initiatives and events
Attend all required
JCU
Club Sports coaches trainings and meetings
Uphold mission, vision, and values of university and department at all times
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
1-3 years of relevant experience in competitive rowing and/or rowing coaching
Ability to become and maintain coaching certification through the Cleveland Rowing Foundation within first three (3) months of hire
Valid driver’s license and ability to become
CPR
/
AED
& First Aid certified within one (1) month of hire
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently
Experience rowing and/or coaching at the junior or collegiate level
Experience with trailer driving and boat rigging
Demonstrated ability to motivate college students in a positive manner
Demonstrated ability to plan and organize effectively, and teach fundamentals and techniques associated with sport
Demonstrated ability to provide positive leadership and serve as a role model
This position works in-person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. However, this position will require work to be performed outside of normal business hours based on department operations.
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other office locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Pay Rate: $2,000
