The Assistant Director’s primary responsibilities are to direct, support and supervise a successful Aquatics Program and to assist in a successful Intramural Program. The ministry strategy is to serve student-athletes by creating a spiritually rich environment supporting community development, quality programs, and exciting, innovative initiatives. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate competence in integration of personal faith and the truths of Christianity with instruction in the sport of aquatics. This is a 12 hour per week, stipend position that requires some weekend and evening work hours over a 10 month period beginning ideally August 1 and ending May 31.
Assist the Director of Campus Recreation in oversight and management of aquatics area
Work with the Head Swim Coach on all aquatics scheduling and programming including swim team practice times, college classes, swim lessons, pool facility rentals, and special events within the aquatics area
Supervise and mentor all staff as directed and approved by the Director of Campus Recreation
Hire, evaluate and train all aquatics staff including Head Lifeguard, Lifeguards, and Swim Instructors
Work with Facility Services Technician on any service and maintenance issues with the pool area
Review, evaluate, develop and enforce all aquatics facility policies and procedures
Work with the Director of Risk Management in implementing and overseeing an Emergency Action Plan for the aquatics area
Manage and operate within all budget parameters, without exception. Submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by the Director of Campus Recreation
Assist Conference Services in the hiring and training of summer lifeguards
Required to be present some evenings during intramural contests and events
Assist the Director of Campus Recreation with the scheduling of intramurals and special events
Request, monitor, and oversee any budgetary responsibilities as assigned
Participate as requested in office, staff and department meetings
Counsel with students and refer as necessary regarding spiritual, personal, emotional or academic problems
Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with Indiana Wesleyan University's mission and goals. Support the policies of the student handbook with integrity
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and create an environment of quality and innovation
Work within Department of Campus Recreation to foster an environment of cooperation and unity
According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required
Must have a current CPO (Certified Pool Operator) or must earn the CPO within 6 months of hiring
CPR/AED/First Aid Red Cross Instructor Certification preferred
Must demonstrate a mature and expressive Christian faith commitment
Needs to passionately support and articulate the University mission
Need to be gifted in supervising and motivating others
Must subscribe to the principles and lifestyle of the Wesleyan Church
