Job Description:
USC Athletics is looking to hire an Assistant Director, Broadcast Operations to join our staff and student community of 600+ individuals. This individual will work as a member of the Intercollegiate Athletics Broadcasting and Production staff and be under the direct supervision of the Assistant/Associate Athletic Director, Broadcast Operations. The Assistant Director, Broadcast Operations is responsible for assisting with the live broadcasts of USC Athletics on B1G+. This position will manage student staff training for operations of B1G+ streams and the Big Ten Network (BTN) needs, such as coordinating press conferences, studio operations, live stream proposals, talkbacks, as well as helping with coordinating with the in-house production show for Galen Center and other on-campus venues.
This position serves a diverse student and staff population, must demonstrate a commitment to improving outcomes for historically under-served populations, and is expected to contribute to the program’s diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts. Roles and responsibilities to include:
Oversee the production of live events, with responsibilities including directing, technical directing, and operation of replay and graphics machines.
Produce original creative video content for University of Southern California’s stadium video boards and social media channels. Conceptualize, shoot, edit, produce and distribute videos for various platforms.
Staff, recruit, and train students and other temporary workers for BTN StudentU streams and USC live events.
Work closely with marketing staff, conference, and multimedia rightsholder as well as existing outsourced staff to ensure all sponsorship and marketing content is properly developed, displayed and executed on videoboards.
Ensure videoboards are always maintained and operational for athletic events.
This position will also oversee DV Sports operations. This will include hiring personnel to operate the DV Sport systems for games that utilize replay. Set up replay systems for use in games. It will also be the point of contact with DV Sport or other replay systems that come into use.
Troubleshoot and perform system maintenance of the Galen Center broadcast facility, as well as complex broadcast video/audio of SMPTE 2110 production equipment and systems.
Collaborate on all game day graphics and other elements to be included in broadcasts.
Collaborate with other units within external affairs department, including marketing, creative, and athletic communications, to plan and execute content that meets department goals and objectives
Maintain technical knowledge needed to execute broadcasts to the specifications of conference and department partners.
Perform equipment upgrades and ensure secure operation procedures.
Collaborate with other Broadcasting and Production (B&P) unit members with content creation, graphic design, show production, etc. on non-B1G+ events as needed.
Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, journalism, digital media, or other related field, as well as a minimum of two years of video industry experience (three years preferred). Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Experience with video post-production and graphic creation software.
Experience with shooting of sports games, highlights and interviews.
Proficiency with Ross, Evertz and Daktronics products.
Knowledge and previous experience working with sports leagues or conferences a plus.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work efficiently on short deadlines, including balancing multiple projects simultaneously.

Salary Range:
The annual base salary range for this position is $77,000 - $85,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
