The Assistant Director of Athletic Academic Advising is primarily responsible for leading the team of Athletic Academic Advisors within Academic Advising. Position also serves as the secondary advisor for all student-athletes. The Assistant Director of Athletic Academic Advising reports to the Senior Director of University Advising Center.

- Supervise Athletic Academic Advisors, graduate assistants, and student employees.
- Supervise Student Success Advisor and Student Athlete Development Coordinator; ensure said staff provide one-on-one help in the areas of career services, time management, and study skills with the goal of maintaining academic eligibility, and academic success and retention, ultimately leading to graduation.
- Hire and onboard new employees and student/graduate assistants.
- Provide training to staff, as appropriate.
- Build a collaborate team that leads to staff retention.

- Assist with content development for a comprehensive onboarding and training program for athletic academic advisors.
- Partner with leadership in the evaluation of new athletic academic advisors.

- Develop and implement initiatives and experiences to promote retention of athletic academic advisors and/or opportunities for advancement within the organization.
- Serve as member of Athletics Senior Staff Team and as sport administrator for UIW Athletic Teams as assigned.

- Develop degree plans; advise and register students, monitor academic progress; disperse and review progress reports; and refer students to tutoring and other student support services as needed.
- Verify academic programs for student athletes including NCAA compliance and retention.
- Meet one-on-one with at-risk student-athletes to monitor and support their academic progress; assist in administering NCAA academic compliance, continuing eligibility, and academic enhancement programs for student athletes.
- Meet with potential student athletes and families as key member of recruiting process.
- Execute certification process, a key piece in the NCAA academic certification process.
- Monitor registration of student-athletes to ensure continued enrollment in appropriate classes.
- Advise student-athletes on appropriate majors and careers opportunities.
- Assist and advise student-athletes in identifying and evaluating academic problems.
- Create a comprehensive academic plan for each student-athlete and develop a process for tracking the progress of each student.
- Provide transfer articulations and registration assistance to new and continuing student-athletes.
- Implement intervention strategies and communicate outcomes to appropriate constituents.
- Oversee the development and facilitation of student-athlete workshops and participate in student-athlete presentations.

- Collaborate and engage with faculty and university partners to maintain strong relationships.
- Regularly collaborate with the Senior Director of Advising Services, the Director of the University Advising Center, and Athletic Director.
- Prepare and report retention/GSR/APR data to Athletics Department and other constituents.
- Serve as main point of contact for athletic advising issues and concerns.
- Attend university events and serve on committees.
- Develop and engage in on-going assessment to evaluate, enhance, and communicate the student-athlete experience.
- Engage and collaborate with Advising Services team.
- Coordinate and communicate athletic academic advisor activities throughout the various advising cycles that occur on a regular basis (e.g., start of the semester, prep for registration, registration, drop dates, etc.)

- Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advising in a higher education setting.
- At least one (1) year of experience working with NCAA compliance rules and regulations in a post-secondary setting.

- Masters Degree.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
- Experience with Banner System.
- Experience with database management systems such as Xtender, Degree Works, Navigate, etc…
