Job Summary

 

The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications is an essential member of the Sports Information Department within UWG Athletics, providing elevated support to the Sports Information Director with developing and implementing the overall strategic communications strategy of the UWG Athletic Department. This includes the UWG Athletic Department digital presence with uwgathletics.com and all social media interaction. This strategy includes the promotion of teams, student-athletes, and coaches within the UWG Athletic Department.

Responsibilities

 

50%_ 
Day-to-day operations of athletics communications office: Assists in all aspects of athletic communications, public relations and the general promotion of the athletic department through various mediums and platforms - Serves as the primary media relations contact for specific sports, as assigned. - Acts as a liaison between the department, the conference office and the NCAA; as well as in collaboration with local, regional and national media to tell the story of UWG Athletics - Fulfills requests to provide rosters, statistics, and other related information to athletic communications colleagues, external media, and NCAA stats portal. - Writes game notes, game recaps and player/team award articles for uwgathletics.com. - Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of UWGathletics.com, ensuring accuracy and completeness of available information.

15%- 
Collaboration with UCM to support marketing efforts for department, teams, and student-athletes: Collaborates in the execution of creative strategies to create content, in the form of graphics, videos and written material to promote UWG athletics, its teams, and its student-athletes - Collaborates with University Communications and Marketing to provide support in the creation of written feature stories.

25%- 
Gameday responsibilities for assigned sports: Works live athletic events, assisting in the coordination of media services; including game statistics, post-game interviews with studentathletes and coaches, post-game stories and notes. - Serves as game statistician during select home games using specialized statistical software. - Assists with venue set-up in media areas. Helps oversee and schedule student workers to work in the office and at home athletic events.

Attract, train, and supervise graduate assistant / student intern staff: Supports partnership efforts with on-campus academic programs to recruit, train and manage graduate and student assistants in day-to-day operations.

Required Qualifications

 

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience
A minimum of 1-year experience working in a Sports Information office with proficient knowledge of Sidearm Sports Content Management System and proficient skills using Adobe Creative Suite. Experience with Live Stats Software is also desired. Experience with social media platforms including Facebook, X, and Instagram are required. Excellent writing skills and solid command of the written English language and speaking skills with clear enunciation. Experience working in a team environment with coaches, student-athletes and administrators is desired.

Preferred Education
Masters Degree in Sport Management with preference given to those who have experience working in a Sports Information office within an intercollegiate athletics department for one year or more. Knowledge of different sports, including playing, scoring and statistical rules is preferred.

Proposed Salary

 

$43,888-$45,000 Annually. Paid on a Monthly Basis. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

 

Knowledge
Knowledge of Sidearm Sports Content Management System, with proficient skills using Adobe Creative Suite; knowledge of NCAA Live Stats Software is also desired. Knowledge to manage an athletic website through Sidearm Sports¿ Content Management System; Knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, X, and Instagram are required.

Ability
Ability to stat multiple sports in Genius NCAA Live Stats Software; with the ability to create, edit, and produce content in Adobe Creative Suite, primarily in the programs of Photoshop, InDesign, Audition, and Premiere Pro.

Skills
Skills in Photography and Videography and must be a skilled writer with proficiency in Associated Press Style.
