This is a full-time, twelve-month position, which reports directly to the Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Support Services (Associate AD). This position is responsible for assisting the Associate AD with the coordination, implementation, facilitation, and oversight of the athletics compliance program. Additionally, this position assists in monitoring the systems established to ensure the department is operating within the bylaws of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Big Sky Conference, and Weber State University (WSU) as well as protects the integrity of the institution against possible violations of these bylaws. This position assists the Associate AD with providing compliance oversight for all Department of Athletics staff with a strong emphasis on monitoring all 16 athletic teams sponsored at WSU and the program’s respective coaches and non-coaching staff members. This position helps in directing, organizing, and administering, in conjunction with other campus entities, the university’s compliance program and applicable university regulations related to academics, eligibility and degree progress, and recruitment monitoring. This position assists in educating department staff, student athletes, student support groups, boosters, and the public regarding NCAA, Big Sky, and WSU rules and regulations. The primary duty of this position will be supervising the Department’s monitoring of compliance with NCAA Division I bylaws 13 (Recruiting) and 17 (Playing and Practice Seasons).This will include monitoring compliance with legislation pertaining to phone calls, contacts and evaluations, official visits, unofficial visits, camps and clinics, and practice logs. Other duties will be assigned based on the compliance coordinator’s skill set and the Department’s needs. In accordance with the principles of NCAA rules compliance, it is understood that any employee who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.
Required:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
Preferred: Experience in a NCAA Division I or II institutional compliance office or conference office/related experience at the NCAA national office (e.g. Academic & Membership Affairs, Enforcement). Experience analyzing, interpreting, and apply policy. Juris doctor or master’s degree in a related field. Experience as a NCAA student-athlete or coach, especially at the NCAA Division I level. Experience with job-related software such as JumpForward, Banner, and NCAA web applications (e.g. Compliance Assistant, LSDBi, Eligibility Center). Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, faculty, coaches, student athletes, and administrators. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work in a time-sensitive and occasionally pressured environment. Possess an attitude that fosters a respectful, non¬threatening workplace environment. Ability to accept a flexible work schedule that includes nights and weekends. Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals and organizations Demonstrate an extreme attention to detail. Ability to organize tasks and set priorities.
