The Assistant Director of Headington Hall is a full-time, live-in position in the University of Oklahoma’s Athletics owned and operated residence hall, Headington Hall. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing guidance through communication, direction, and support for the overall mission, vision, and goals of the Athletics Department at the University of Oklahoma.

Essential Functions:

• Communicate with and provide direct/indirect supervision, guidance, development, motivation, and support to the Headington Hall Graduate Assistant, Resident Advisors, and Desk Clerks through the establishment and maintenance of interpersonal relationships
• Collaborate with others to contribute to marketing and communications plans and strategies including drafting, editing, and reviewing of written mass communications and marketing materials
• Think creatively to develop communication strategies that guide training programs for all levels of staff that enhance the delivery of services to Headington Hall residents and compliment the priorities of the Division of Athletics
• Analyze date to evaluate the departmental training program through the lens of communication, data collection, assessment, and evaluation techniques to strive for consistent improvement in the development of staff
• Assume a proactive role in enhancing the student experience by personally resolving complex or sensitive conflicts through communication, questions, concerns, requests, and addressing chronic resident noncompliance with community policies with appropriate university resources as applicable
• Develop and maintain interprofessional relationships with campus partners in support of training and development of Headington Hall staff
• Process and interpret the meaning of all data and information relevant to residence life metrics to report them. Create and monitor committee projects and provide assessment reports and/or documentation for each project assigned
• Collaborate as a member of the Headington Hall leadership team on communications, goal setting, strategic planning, assessment, evaluation, and policy development

• Administrative duties including but not limited to policy and budget

  • Will execute creative strategic initiatives that will have a measurable impact on student retention
  • Will be responsible for assisting in communication initiatives to residents and families, as directed

• Ensure quality student services and programs that support the missions and goals of OU and OU Athletics

• Provide on-call/emergency support

• Implement, coordinate, manage, and evaluate multiple projects over varied periods of time

• Under the direction of the Assistant AD of Headington Hall Operations, the Assistant Director of Headington Hall is expected to exercise a high level of judgement to make decisions and solve problems in the conduct of business responsibility with minimal supervision

• Respond to and resolve escalated customer concerns using an ethics of care approach in all interactions with students, families, and staff

• Act on behalf of the Assistant AD of Headington Hall at their discretion when not available

• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree, AND:

• 12 months in student programming, student services, or closely related experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 60 months experience.

Skills :

• Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
• Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
• Strong initiative to solve problems
• General office skills such as multi-line phone, copying, filing, faxing, and mail
• Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, administrators, and staff

Departmental Preferences:

• 3-5 years of professional experience in Residence Life or student housing operations management
• Direct experience supervising full-time staff, training, developing staff, and assessing educational programs
• Experience planning training schedules
• Experience creating learning outcomes
• Experience performing evaluation and assessment of training initiatives
• Demonstrated knowledge of student success strategies
• Demonstrated ability to professionally interact and relate to individuals with diverse backgrounds, including the ability to effectively resolve complex or sensitive matters
• Proven ability to lead a team, including proven success coaching team members to improve performance, and training team members on advancing student learning
• Demonstrated ability to organize individual and teams to ensure operations are highly productive and meet or exceed business goals and the university’s mission
• Computer proficiency, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database software, i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, G Suite. Knowledge of Roompact, StarRez and Maxient software, or similar tools, preferred.
