Summary

This position will develop and implement the sports performance program for assigned sports of Barry's 12 intercollegiate athletic teams which includes developing sport-specific conditioning programs, performance analysis/ sport science data, injury prevention/ rehabilitation programs and nutrition. The Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning will report to the Director of Strength and Conditioning and assist in overseeing the daily operations of the facility (cleaning, equipment storage and replacement). This position will be responsible for teaching proper and safe weightlifting techniques and motivating student-athletes to reach their potential. Additional responsibilities include coordinating rehabilitation with the Athletic Training staff, educating student-athletes and staff in the areas of sports performance, and maintaining compliance with NCAA, SSC, and Barry University rules and regulations. August 1st thru June 30th.

The position is a full-time, eleven (11) month position with full benefits.

Essential Functions

  • Developing comprehensive training programs for teams and individual varsity student-athletes based upon sport specific needs. Overseeing the conditioning of direct teams including, but not limited to development of strength, power, speed, flexibility, endurance, and recovery.

  • Support both team and coaching staff education specific to physical stress, lifestyle management, nutrition education and general health/wellness.

  • Maintaining current knowledge base of advances in the area of weight training, cardiovascular conditioning, speed training, and nutrition.

  • The Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning will embrace and model a positive coaching philosophy and associated techniques; insisting on a culture of respect and positive communication.

  • The position will assist in maintaining compliance with all NCAA, University, and Conference practices and regulations, while contributing to the continual growth and development of the University's intercollegiate strength and conditioning program.

  • The Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning will demonstrate an on-going commitment to the principles of multiculturalism and diversity through hiring practices, training and development programming, campus collaborations, or involvement and participation in university/divisional multiculturalism and diversity projects or initiatives.
