Overview
Oversee the academic progress from matriculation to graduation of varsity student-athletes, including those from high-profile sports. Facilitate the overall adjustment and development of student-athletes through mentoring and academic skills training.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct mentoring and support to student-athletes by conducting team academic meetings and regular, one-on-one meetings throughout the semester. Refer student-athletes to appropriate services and service providers (e.g. tutoring, Personal Counseling, Chirico Career Center, etc.), as necessary and appropriate. Coordinate the preparation and delivery of travel notification letters for assigned athletic teams. Coordinate pre-registration support for assigned teams. Work with campus partners (e.g. the Office of the Registrar, advisors in the Student Success Center, coaches, and Athletic administrators) to minimize student-athlete scheduling conflicts. When necessary, travel with assigned athletic teams to provide academic support. (50%)
Communicate regularly with student-athletes, faculty, coaches, and administrators regarding the academic progress of designated student-athletes and athletic teams. Follow up with student-athletes, faculty, and coaches in response to grades, academic referrals, and academic performance issues. Provide grade reports and academic performance summaries to coaches, as necessary. Maintain accurate and detailed case notes. (20%)
Organize the process of collecting/evaluating data that are used to determine appropriate tiers (or levels) of support for incoming student-athletes. Manage the process of distributing and recording data from all academic progress reports, initiate follow-up communication efforts with faculty, as necessary and appropriate. Organize the process of certifying student-athletes’ ongoing eligibility for competition. Liaison with Teamworks Academics to facilitate technology updates and ensure successful integration of new modules and features. Liaison with Information Technology to address any student-athlete reporting issues and/or to propose enhancements. (20%)
Assist in recruiting academically qualified student-athletes to the College per coaches’ requests (i.e. conduct SSC visits/meetings with prospective student-athletes, parents, and/or guardians). Serve on and chair departmental committees and working groups, as designated by the AVP/Dean of Student Academic Success. Maintain records in compliance with college, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Assist in compiling and preparing annual reports for Student-Athlete Services. Support ongoing efforts to enhance assessment of all student-athlete services and programs. Participate in regular all-staff meetings and professional development activities. Update and maintain the Student-Athlete Services website. (10%)

Education and Experience
Master’s degree in education, counseling, college student personnel, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Minimum of three years’ experience in the post-secondary environment, working directly with student-athletes, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, counseling, and listening skills to build positive relationships.
Knowledge of learning strategies and study skills, especially as they relate to student-athlete/college-student development.
Technical skills, especially the ability to use computer software (e.g., campus administrative systems, work processing, spreadsheets, databases, web-based technologies, etc.) to enhance effectiveness.
Experience working with high-profile men’s and women’s athletic programs.
Knowledge of NCAA rules/regulations as they relate to academic progress and eligibility.
Some evening and weekend work required.
Must ensure that all services for student-athletes are provided in accordance with applicable NCAA/Conference rules.
