| Overview |
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Coach Football. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Under the general supervision of the Head Coach Football, this position will assist head coach in coaching student-athletes, implementation and instruction of game strategy, recruiting prospective student-athletes, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, program organization, managing travel, managing student-athlete scholarships and overseeing the discipline, conduct and image of the sport program and student-athletes of a major university sport program in conjunction with other departmental responsibilities as assigned.

This is a professional coaching position, and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules and regulations of affiliated national, regional and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the Mid-American conference (or subsequent member conference) and the university. | | Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Coaching – 25%

1. Serve as a mentor, advocate, and teacher of student athletes.
2. Provide an overall positive educational environment for student-athletes conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparing them for life beyond college.
3. In conjunction with the Student Athlete Academic Support Services (SAASS) department monitor academic progress and academic status of student-athletes, implementing corrective action plans through appropriate staff, if needed.

Recruitment – 25%

1. Recruitment of prospective student athletes – NIU Football maintains a roster of 109 players per season. Coaching Staff evaluates from a prospective student athlete pool number into the thousands to see which would not only fit the rigors of NIU academically and socially, but also from the athletics standpoint.

Game Strategy – 20%

1. Coach student-athletes individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques; position may manage a designated skill development area or group of positions, as assigned.
2. Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations.
3. Develop, recommend and teach game strategy and position assignments.

Public Relations – 15%

1. Promote the university, athletic department and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising and marketing.
2. Perform both direct and indirect public relations functions including promotion, fundraising, and community instruction through camps and/or clinics.
3. When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate athletic staff are encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for NIU team efforts.

Safety and Conduct – 10%

1. Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the image and reputation of the department and university.
2. Responsible for the development, safety and conduct of the student-athletes within specific sport program.

Other Related Duties – 5%

1. Assist with other departmental needs as requested.

1. Bachelor’s Degree. 2. Minimum two (2) academic years of demonstrated successful development and athletic improvement of student athletes throughout their career under applicant’s coaching of football skills, game and training strategies. 3. Minimum two (2) academic years of demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining quality student-athletes, particularly at the regional level (Midwest) including knowledge of high school programs, to NCAA FBS or FCS level football program. 4. Minimum five (5) academic years coaching experience at the NFL, CFL, NCAA – FBS or FCS, or DIII level.

1. Demonstrate ability to empower, communicate with and relate well to the male student-athlete. 2. Demonstrated effective communication through oral, written and electronic forms 3. Knowledge of and compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations, both those general in nature and those which apply directly to your position’s responsibilities. 4. Strict adherence to all applicable governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the NCAA is required and is a condition of your employment.
