Overview

The Assistant Football Coach will report to the Head Coach of Football and will work within a rigorous environment developing high-functioning athletes as assigned. The individual will also have responsibilities in the areas of recruitment, academic support, and skill training as it relates to developing a successful NCAA Division I football program.

The Assistant Football Coach will have a strong presence in working with the university, athletics department and the community. Will engage in activities and subcommittees outside of the football program.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will identify, recruit, retain, and develop student-athletes that will deliver a winning program to USU. The assistant coach will work under the direction of the Head Coach and will be responsible for the discipline, conduct and image of student-athletes. Ensure program operates within parameters; ensure compliance with policies and rules; build positive relationships with internal and external constituents.

The assistant Football coach at Utah State University will report to the Head football coach and will be assigned essential tasks that include: on and off campus recruiting; aid in planning practices; budget management of assigned funds; effectively work and communicate with students, monitoring academic progress of student-athletes; possess knowledge of overall football skills in order to develop athletes at every position; adherence to and promotion of NCAA rules and compliance to staff, student-athletes and representatives of athletic interest; successfully complete NCAA recruiting exam, team building and community and public relations. The assistant coach will demonstrate an understanding and commitment to athletics programs at NCAA Division 1 level have a commitment to the academic mission of Utah State University, a commitment to the academic success of the student-athletes, serve as a positive role model for student-athletes on and off the field, works well with students, facility, staff and community.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• Playing or coaching experience at the collegiate level OR previous playing and coaching experience of the sport at a high school recognized regionally or nationally for its athletic achievements.
• Skills or competencies related to the sport.
• Demonstrates strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrates proven leadership abilities through prior playing and/or coaching experience.
• Demonstrated abilities to lead small and large group discussions.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to utilize the latest advances in technology.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience at the Division I level.
